Clothes Dryer In A Honda Stream

11122008728The multi-purpose flexibility of our new Honda Stream has already been put to good use. We transported a clothes dryer. It was actually enough to just fold down the 3rd row seats. But it didn’t fit after padding the sides and back with stiff cardboard. The tailgate could not close because my cardboard was too high. So in the end, I folded down one of the 2nd row seats as well.

Of course I don’t count on transporting such enormous objects on a regular basis. But the flexible seating and cargo configuration is one of the main motivations for getting a compact MPV like the Honda Stream. It’s not a pickup or van though… so one still has to make sure the interior is well protected against damage from the cargo.

Previously, I was also considering either the Mitsubishi Colt Plus and the Honda Jazz. These are, of course, much smaller cars. It is the flexible space configuration that I found useful. Alas, I eventually ended up with an Altis at that time. The Altis is somewhat “constricted”. The doors don’t even open wide enough for me to get my baby chair into the back seat easily.

Incidentally for those who are wondering whether the Toyota Wish is roomier, well it isn’t. The Toyota Wish does look bigger from the outside. But the Wish is exactly the same width as the Stream. The Wish is 45mm taller, but the Stream is 10mm longer. Although the Wish is taller, the Stream’s tailgate opens 80mm higher and yet the cargo floor is 5mm lower. The Stream’s interior is up to 190mm wider. Now you know which of these compact MPVs will take in more cargo.
