This Saturday was not a good day. I went back to work twice. First, there was a power glitch that tripped our building chiller plant, causing our Data Centre air-con to trip due to no chill water supply. Then in the night, one of our servers became unreachable, which we eventually found was due to a faulty switch port.
There was actually a third problem: Fan failure in one of our big switches. This would have required hardware replacement, so we decided to wait till a normal working day. The worst that can happen (at least in theory) is a thermal shutdown of the switch, and all network traffic will failover to our redundant switch.
Sigh, hopefully the New Year will be peaceful. I’ve got a lot of work to catch up on. Been holidaying too long.
