Watching DVDs on Repeat Mode

25072009424It’s amazing sometimes how simple things can captivate the attention of a kid. Like watching a Barney DVD. Doesn’t matter that they have watched the DVD before. It doesn’t matter if they had only just finished watching the whole DVD, not even if it was the whole DVD two consecutive times over. They can still watch it as if they had never seen it before.

We have a three-DVD set of Barney videos. Each DVD doesn’t last very long (not a full hour). An adult would watch a DVD movie and be done with it after one round, maybe twice if it was a really good movie. For Vanessa, we can set her down in front of the same Barney DVD and she’ll be happy many times over.

It’s like how an adult can listen to an audio CD over and over again, although perhaps not quite so consecutively. We adults may get bored watching the same DVD movie by the 3rd or 4th time. It’s okay, however, to listen to the same audio CD many times over. Perhaps it is because our attention is not entirely devoted to the audio CD while we’re listening to it. Listening to music is like an automatic background thing.

But Vanessa will watch the same Barney DVD one time after another, evening after evening, each time without loosing enthusiasm. Each time still telling me, “Papa, I want watch Barney song.”

The poor Papa doesn’t get to watch AXN.
