Lousy Service at Fish and Company

260920091031We were recently at the Fish and Company restaurant in Velocity. It looks just like any other Fish and Company restaurants, and the food tastes just as good, especially their famed Fish and Chips. But the service was horrendous. Water must also be extremely precious at this restaurant because we found it very difficult to get our glasses of water served. We asked for three glasses of iced water. None came. We reminded, then only two glasses were served.

In the course of our meal, we asked to refill our glasses. After a long wait, we had to remind the staff again about refilling our glasses. Serving glasses of water seems like such a quick and simple thing to do, yet it seems like a somewhat difficult task to accomplish here.

We ordered a kids meal for Vanessa. Her meal came. But no utensils. Not even adult utensils, let alone kids utensils. How were they expecting Vanessa to eat? If you brought along a child, asked for a child seat, and ordered a kids meal, it would seem very obvious that the child will be eating. Even if you didn’t remember to set out the child utensils at the start, surely when you brought the food you’d have noticed something amiss.

We were hardly the first customers. The restaurant was already crowded. Yet, there appeared to be some confusion over what the soup of the day was.  The staff who sat us at our table said one thing. When we ordered, another staff served us, and he told us it was something else.

We wanted to order one of the special promotion items and found ourselves surprised that the staff serving us recommended an alternative, because the one we were eyeing was “not worth it” because the serving was so meagre. Hmm. We appreciate the honesty of course, but then one wonders about the decision to have promotion items that are not value-for-money. I suppose he could have been more tactful in criticizing his own restaurant’s menu.

Food is still good, fortunately. Especially the fish and the calamari. I imagine I would still come back despite the service.
