Boomz and Shingz

301020091469I’m surprised how much momentum Ris Low’s brand of English has gained in such a short period of time. I can imagine there will be lots of talk around town about Boomz and Shingz. It’s on TV, it’s on radio, it’s on the Internet in various forms. Then, what did I see? Boomz, at a shop. Oh. A series of clothing based on Ris Low’s English.

I didn’t imagine the boomz and shingz had gotten so big. I suspected it would have been a big thing in schools, where impressionable kids would be demonstrating their fluency in this brand of English. I’m hearing that this is indeed happening. Even the teachers join in (I don’t know if that includes the English teachers).

Then Class 95 upgraded Ris Low by comparing her to Steven Lim. The Flying Dutchman suggested that Ris Low start a blog to document her experiences and monetize it. He got irritated by the new English being invented. It would be something constructive. But then again, perhaps Ris Low is already monetizing her new words now, without even the hassle of starting a blog.

Today, while having lunch, I heard a shingz ringing out as someone walked past my table. Yeah, they are mastering this new English and putting it into every day use.

Yesterday, a Sun engineer blew up a power supply in our data centre. The situation was aptly described: The power supply went boomzed, and the Sun guy went shingz.

The Boomz and the Shingz is really everywhere. Even being featured on clothing at New Urban Male. Perhaps a brand will grow out of these words.

I think, if these words Boomz and Shingz should ever make it into some kind of dictionary, Ris Low will be really famous.
