Singapore’s DNC (Do-Not-Call) Registry goes live today. If you’ve not done so yet, head over to http://www.dnc.gov.sg/ to register your phone to not receive unsolicited voice calls, text messages, and/or faxes from telemarketers. This will hopefully be a great start to the end of unsolicited telemarketing calls.
We can expect the DNC Registry to be very popular. First, it’s free, and knowing Singaporeans, anything free must take. Secondly, we all hate unsolicited calls. What better deal than this, free and truly something that benefits us.
For most people, the most important thing is probably to register on the voice call list, that is, you don’t want to receive unsolicited telemarketing calls. It’s probably alright for text messages. Just for good measure, in case some companies are dumb enough to attempt to send faxes to a mobile phone, or you actually do have a fax machine, then list your number on the fax register too.
Do note that although the DNC Registry is live now, telemarketers are only required to check the registry from 2 January 2014. So your “peace” starts next year. Of course, that’s assuming that telemarketers are good enough to abide by the law. They need to, because it is very easy for members of the public to lodge a complaint.
In case you’re wondering, it is now illegal for telemarketers to call from a phone with caller line ID blocked. Therefore, every telemarketing call will be easily identified.
