The Cat Got Out of the Bag

Friday, August 14th, 2009

photo-19Yeah, the cat has finally been let out of the bag. Actually, it became officially announced many days ago, but most people seldom read official news. I would have missed it myself too. So it took an email announcement for the news to really get out, and I became deluged (happily no doubt) with a big bunch of emails. Thank you everyone, I am indeed honoured. Heh, if this sounds cryptic, then let it be so.

Watching the NDP 2009 Show

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

09082009577Every year, I try to catch the National Day Parade on TV. This year is no exception. What is new this year is Vanessa joining in to watch the show. It’s really funny that, at the start, Vanessa was pretty engrossed with the show, starting with the free fall jumps by the Red Lions. Her eyes were glued onto the TV just like when she watches her Barney DVD. I thought this will be good, let’s see if she can watch the entire 2+ hour show with me.

NUS Rag and Flag

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

Photo 27It’s funny that I should have something to post about the NUS Rag and Flag this year, because I was not actually involved in any way. But something prompted me to write about it. Behind all the glamourous front of Rag and Flag, there is something about student behaviour that comes to light. No, it is not something dark and sinister. It’s their recklessness, indifference, and lack of civic-mindedness that I feel is unbecoming of undergraduates.

Week 0 at NUS

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

03082009519This week is what’s known in NUS as Week 0. It’s freshmen orientation week. The week where everyone (students, that is) are still having fun. The campus, surprisingly, is not as crowded as I had anticipated it to be. We were able to find seats during lunch, even during the peak lunch hour. But there was one place that was unusually crowded, and that was one place that I had to visit.

The Problem with Phone Upgrades

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

20071222557It happened when I upgraded my phone with M1 previously. It happened when I got a Hub Station with StarHub. Now the same thing happens with SingTel when I got my N97. I don’t know why these companies have to muck up your bill when you go through an “equipment upgrade”. They do the equivalent of terminating your service, and then reinstating the service. Since the service is simply being retained, why bother with the paper charade?

Supermarket Trolley Carts

Monday, July 6th, 2009

05072009143I was at Cold Storage yesterday to pick up a few items, and a new gadget there caught my attention. It’s “Futurecart”. It has a LCD screen mounted at the end of the cart. That’s nothing terribly futuristic about it, but it is certainly an evolutionary development of the same old supermarket trolley carts that have served us for decades.

My Greatest Achievement this ICT

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

240620093203This ICT I achieved something. It is not something very spectacular or terribly significant. But as we try to spend the long hours as fruitfully as possible, this is nevertheless something notable, at least on a personal level. What’s that? Well, there is this flight simulation arcade game in the spec mess, I cleared the Intermediate Level.

New SAF New Balance Shoes

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

180620093130I’m surprising myself by writing something about SAF PT shoes. But the new SAF New Balance shoes are pretty good, so it is something worthwhile to write about. It looks quite unique (in a good sense), and the mesh material that covers most of the shoes make the shoes very airy and comfortable to wear.

Will Google Adsense Pay My Salary

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

photo-26I’ve been earning a small little sum of pocket money through Google Adsense on my blog. It’s a relatively steady flow, although also relatively small. The amount of work I put into my blog is also relatively little, of course, compared to my full time day job. I was just thinking about it, it I make blogging my full time job, would I earn enough from Google Adsense to pay me comparably to what I earn now from my day job?

Camera Phone Photography Skills

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

310520092993Good photography skills are not so easy to come by. That’s why you have professional photographers. To get a good photo, you probably need both good photographic equipment and good photography skills. Professional photographers have their professional camera rig. But how about camera phone photographers? I think camera phone photography requires even more skills!
