Automatic Logins to Wireless@SG

One of the stumbling blocks to the use of Wireless@SG has to be the ease of logging in to the network. If you’ve found a Wireless@SG hotspot with working coverage and network access, you’re still faced with the challenge (though just a minor inconvenience) of manual login. Can we have automatic logins? For phone users, you’d appreciate the difficulty of manual login from your phone’s browser: keyboard entry is difficult, the screen is small, etc. It seems mighty inconvenient if…

Revival of Parking Idiots

Yeah. Parking Idiots is back as parkingidiotsg.blogspot.com. We get to air our parking grouses somewhere again! I would have preferred an Idiot Drivers blog site, because a good many of my driving grouses are with other drivers’ driving habits, not just about their parking skills. But alas, you’d have to take a picture right? How to take a picture while you’re driving? So okay then, from a practical point of view, I suppose we could just focus on parking idiots…

A Peek At Upcoming Mobile Phones

This year’s CES has seen the unveiling of a bunch of upcoming mobile phones from Sony Ericsson, Motorola, Nokia and others. Many reports and reviews seem to have been drooled all over the new models (perhaps that’s that they’re all supposed to do), although I’d think they are overly hyped. They are interesting, no doubt; But earth-shattering, no.

Firmware Update for Nokia N95 8GB

There’s a new update to the Nokia N95 8GB firmware — version 15.0.015. This is the 2nd update (i.e. 3rd firmware) since I acquired this phone in November 2008. I’m quite pleased that updates for SingTel branded phones become available quite quickly. (On my M1 branded Nokia N73 previously, I typically had to wait several weeks after the new firmware is announced.) I’m not totally sure yet what this firmware does, since I didn’t find any official Nokia changelog, but…

Advertlets Problem Not Quite Resolved

In case you’re thinking it is now OK to put back in all your advertlets markup to your blog site… I would recommend holding a while. I am still seeing problems from several locations, including “big networks” like in NUS and 1-Net. I am posting this, because I’m eagerly trying to read some blogs, but am prevented from doing so by the web page redirection. I think Advertlets seriously needs to review how their advertisements are marked up.

When Your Personal Safety is Threathened by Hackers

When ZDNet reports Boeing 787 at risk of in-flight hacking, you start to worry about how your personal safety can sometimes be threatened by hackers. I wonder what was Boeing thinking about when they connected passenger Internet and entertainment networks to their on-board flight systems network. Professionals in the IT security circles already know how systems and applications must be designed with security from the start, how they need to be reviewed and audited, etc. I certainly hope aircraft manufacturers…

Shaming Idiotic Drivers

I wonder what has happened with Parking Idiots blog? Some drivers just need to be shamed publicly. I thought this site was doing a great thing but it doesn’t seem to have had any activity in over a year. Perhaps the recent festive season and holidaying has enabled me to travel around Singapore more frequently, so with more driving and more parking I get more opportunities to run into idiotic drivers. What some drivers do are just incomprehensible. Sometimes it…

Is Advertlets Serious About Their Business?

The recent domain expiry problem with Advertlets.Com seriously begs the question: How serious is Advertlets about their business? In their Quick FAQ on domain issue posting, they explained what happened: “A complication regarding the renewal process of the domain for Advertlets.com. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.”

GPS Navigation Put to the Test

I had the opportunity to put to test Nokia Map’s GPS navigation last night, traveling to a destination (Kelantan Road) I had never been to before. I did check up streetdirectory.com to confirm it was a locality that I was indeed unfamiliar with. So I thought, why not let GPS navigation take me to my destination?

My Adorable Vanessa

Vanessa is exactly 9 months old today! Yet another milestone in her babyhood. She is getting more and more adorable each day (not that she wasn’t previously, but you know when she grows up she becomes adorable in new ways). Particularly since lately she’s been in the mood to want Daddy to carry her. I think most of last month Daddy was mostly a carrier to transport her from point A to point B.
