Valentine’s At Cappadocia Cafe Restaurant

There aren’t many Turkish restaurants in Singapore. Cappadocia is one of those few. My wife and I have been patronizing the restaurant for some years and we love the food. So we thought we’d have our pre-Valentine’s Day dinner there. They have an outlet located at Rendezvous Hotel, which is just close by to the $1/$10 room I booked at Hotel Ibis Singapore.

Hotel Ibis Singapore Review – The $1 Room

Yup, I’ve checked in. The deal at paywhatyouwant.com.sg is for real of course. It’s a spanking new hotel, so new that not everything is quite ready yet. It’s clean, neat, and modern. There’s nothing grand about it. It’s exactly what you’d expect of any reasonably good tourist class hotel, exactly the market that Hotel Ibis is targeting. The room may be slightly small, but it’s certainly bigger than what you’d find in other crammed inner-city hotels like, say, in Shinjuku…

COE Shortages In Coming Months?

Just announced by Transport Minister Raymond Lim, the number of COE available in the coming quota year will be slashed by 24%. Ouch. That is a humongous cut. I guess the government has had enough with $2 and $200 COEs. Time to take action. Particularly with the gloomy economic climate, where fewer new cars are expected to be purchased, something really drastic had to be done to prop up the COE prices.

Today Is Wheel Clamp Day

Four vehicles pictured here have been wheel clamped. Many more were seen elsewhere in the car park. The car park enforcement van was still around, with the officers busy wheel clamping more cars. I’m impressed by the size of their arsenal of wheel clamping devices. I just wonder how many wheel clamps they have altogether. How many cars can they handle?

Dressed Up All Ready For School

Yes, on a Sunday morning, Vanessa woke up early, had her bath, dressed up nicely, and even already had her socks put on. She’s all ready to go. Just waiting for her Daddy to wake up from his slumber (I like to sleep late on Sundays). So I woke up to find Vanessa all prepped up ready to head off to her class. I was quite amused. At this age, school equals fun, so no wonder that Vanessa looks forward…

Papa’s Favourite Snack

Here’s Vanessa taking good care of Papa’s favourite Arnott’s Barbeque Shapes. They’re nice savoury biscuits peppered with colourful salty bitsy things. Perfect to snack on. The “bad” thing about the Barbeque Shapes is that they’re so yummy that I’m tempted to finish the entire box at one go. Arnott’s makes other kind of Shapes too, but none of the others are as yummy. But the nice things about the others, because they’re not as yummy, I wouldn’t finish them all…

This Tap Runs UNIX

Seen at a wash basin somewhere in Singapore, this tap has the words UNIX inscribed on it. It must be the most robust and reliable tap ever, because it looks like it runs UNIX, as opposed to some other lesser reliable operating system like Windows. My colleagues and I were all so intrigued that we all had to go into the toilet to take a look at the tap, and for two of us, to also take a photo of…

Galbiati Gourmet Deli

When the food is good, you’d find yourself back at the same restaurant again. When it is so good, you might even find yourself ordering exactly the same thing again. That’s just about what we did. We were back at Galbiati Gourmet Deli, and we ordered the same two Chef’s special. Except that this time the “live” Tasmanian mussels have been replaced by clams. It’s just as yummy.

Free Photo Printing At Island Creamery

Yes, you can get free photo prints from a Canon Selphy photo printer at Island Creamery. It’s a novel idea. While you’re there with family or friends enjoying your ice cream, you can snap a photo of your party, then get it printed on the spot. The walls of Island Creamery are also plastered with photos of people having their ice cream at Island Creamery. To prevent abuse, Island Creamery limits one free print per party. Additional prints costs 50…

Why Ban Valet Services

I wonder why ban valet services? This HDB car park is perpetually overcrowded. I imagine it is a win-win-win situation. Drivers are happy. Valet service providers get to earn a few bucks. Ultimately HDB also benefits from more income from collecting more car park charges. So I’m puzzled why HDB doesn’t welcome valet services, so long as the valet services don’t do anything unfair like reserving or hogging lots.
