Superb Sashimi at Akashi

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

310320092444Lunch today was at Akashi Japanese Restaurant located at Vivocity. It’s a nice cozy place. The first thing that struck me was their wasabi. It is the real thing. Not the wasabi paste you get in most Japanese restaurant. This is the fresh wasabi kind that just crumbles into your soy sauce. I can’t remember where else I’ve seen it served in Singapore, but this is definitely one of the things I liked about this restaurant.

High Class Fake Diamonds

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

LifeblogimageThis reminds me of the “original” replica Rolex watches. They are quite professionally marketed. I guess in this time of economic hardship, people could turn to these exquisite luxury alternatives.

What’s Happening During Earth Hour

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

280320092405Earth Hour is happening now, 8:30pm to 9:30pm on 28th March 2009. I looked out of my window. I don’t see anything out of the ordinary. Still plenty of lights are on. I guess, most people don’t care. After all, switching off lights is merely a symbolic gesture. If you really are concerned, you’d need to do something much more significant.

Toilet In An IT Company

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

170320092248Signage posted in the toilet of a leading IT networking Multi-National Company: “For enquiries, please log a case@gtrc…” How interesting that toilet facilities are incorporated into their larger scheme of things in facilities and asset management, and to use an IT-oriented phrase like “log a case”. Can you imagine a call to Support Desk:

Braised Beef Noodle at Holland Village Hawker Centre

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

LifeblogimageThis is the same as stewed beef noodle. It’s suprisingly very good, much better than the same from Crystal Jade, at about half the price.

Nano-Chromatism

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

180320092264The 4th generation iPod Nano was launched in 9 colours. I used to think that 9 colours was too many colours. You don’t find notebooks (of the same model) in more than a handful of colours. Even car models are often not available in as many as 9 colours. Having 9 colours of iPod Nanos was a causing a problem: What colours to choose? Well I found out if you’re going to offer choices, then you can never have enough of them.

Earth Hour Can Use Notebook Or Not?

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

badges_150x127_c3b_greenEarth Hour this year is happening next Saturday 28th March 2009 from 8:30pm to 9:30pm. During this hour, you’re encouraged to switch off non-essential lights and electrical appliances. Class 95 was talking about no TV, oh dear, what are we going to do during that one hour? Then I was talking about it with my colleagues. Someone quipped, should be able to use notebook right? Just run off the batteries, don’t need to plug into the wall socket for power!

The Cheapest iPod Nano Deal

Friday, March 20th, 2009

180320092265Yes, I’ve fallen to the “dark side” and acquired an iPod Nano this week. I got a pretty good deal, paying about S$292 for the 16GB model. I’ve been doing some research, and even waited out till the IT Show last week to see what deals there would be. But unfortunately, Apple is quite sticky about fixing their prices. So all IT Show had to offer was freebies, not a cheaper iPod. How did I get my iPod?

Helping With Housework

Friday, March 20th, 2009

150320092227Here’s the cute little Vanessa trying to help out with housework. She loves dragging the floor wipes throughout the house, kind of like helping to mop up the floor. She looks very happy with this little activity. I just wonder if she’d continue to help out with the housework when she’s, say, 10 years old? Then, perhaps also help me to wash the car? That’s an idea huh.

The Generation Gap

photo-19Every now and then, someone asks me “Are you a student?” It has become a sort of introductory line at seminars and conferences for sales and PR people to start a conversation with me. They look at me, then look at my name tag, see that I come from a university, and then think that I’m probably a student.
