Pickup A Free Notebook Computer

If you’re looking for a fantastic free notebook deal, I think I know where to go. I’m talking about a real notebook computer, not paper notebooks to scribble in. There’s an element of chance, but there’s plenty to go around. It is somewhat like a lucky draw, but I suspect the chances of hitting the jackpot are probably many times better than striking 4-D or winning the Toto lottery. Just invest in a little bit of time, and head down…

Stewed Beef Brisket Noodle

I like stewed beef brisket noodle. The one at Crystal Jade used to be quite good but they seem to be getting less nice over time. There’s a stall at Bukit Timah Hawker Centre that serves pretty good ones. — Posted from my N95 Lifeblog.

Dinner At Harry’s

A couple of nights ago, we headed over to Harry’s for dinner. That’s the Harry’s pub at Rail Mall, pretty close to where we stay. I think they’ve been open there for over a year now, and even though we go past it every now and then wondering where to dine when we’re at Rail Mall, we’ve somehow never picked Harry’s. So this is our first visit to this outlet. Rail Mall has been slowly transforming into a F&B location…

Inside The Kitchen Of Edinburgh Market Cafe

I managed to sneak a photo of the kitchen of Ellenborough Market Cafe at Merchant Court Hotel. They’re awfully busy. Too busy to get food fast enough to satisfy diners. Maybe that’s how they manage profits from their buffet menus. — Posted from my N95 Lifeblog.

Mindef’s Concern Over Facebook

I’ve been expecting some action from Mindef for some time. There is so much on Facebook about our military organizations, reservist units, operations, training, etc. My reservist flight has a Facebook group. So does the squadron, and some sort for the air base too. I was quite amused when I first discovered it. Particularly since even photos, even photos of myself (not taken by me or uploaded by me), appear in the groups. There’s nothing confidential or sensitive, but I…

Inflating Tires to 250 KPa

We all know that proper tire inflation is important. The big question is, what is the right tire pressure? Under-inflation leads to premature tire wear and increases rolling resistance (and hence decreased fuel efficiency). Over-inflation, on the other hand, may lead to decreased grip on the road. My Honda Stream has been running under-inflated for some time. At my last servicing, I had instructed the service centre to have my tires inflated to 250 KPa. I suspected the message didn’t…

Too Much Stress In NTU, Too Much Partying In NUS

I’m sorry to make light of these grave matters, but a colleague put it this way and I thought it was quite an interesting take: too much stress in NTU, too much partying in NUS. This is about the two student deaths that occurred this same week. A student at NTU was said to have stabbed his professor apparently after having lost his scholarship due to deteriorating grades then subsequently falling to his death, and an exchange student at NUS…

Selling Cars in NUS

Times must be bad, so car dealers are even coming to NUS to sell cars. Or perhaps it isn’t so bad afterall, so much so that our dear students have become a lucrative market for car dealers to target. Well, it’s one of the more unusual bazaars at NUS. There’re a couple of other booths, such as Automobile Association of Singapore, V-Kool, and one selling stickers. It’s a mini motoring fair.

Vanessa’s So Happy To Go School

This week we started sending Vanessa to child care. I’m pretty surprised that she is so happy and excited to go “school”. She was all ready early in the morning, dressed up and in very good spirits. She donned her school uniform, and walked around the house with her “school bag”. I was just thinking, let’s see when we reach the child care centre, how would Vanessa be.
