My new Samsung 40″ LCD TV has arrived. It’s the new “B” generation of their Series 5 LCD TV. The TV looks really cool, and the pictures it produces are superb. The colours are bright and vivid, the contrast is excellent, and the image is crisp. It’s quite impressive. Perhaps I’ve been watching my old projection TV for too long that I’m now mesmerized by the quality of the pictures produced by this new TV.

Project Shop Cafe
We were at Paragon one of the mornings recently. We were looking around for some breakfast to eat. Somehow the usual Delifrance and Coffee Bean did not strike our fancy. Then we recalled the Project Shop Blood Brothers on the 3rd story had a cafe. It looked nice and we had been thinking about trying them out before. We decided this would be the time. So we went up, looked at the menu, and hesitated because the prices weren’t cheap….
The Most Advanced Mobile OS Can Cut, Copy and Paste
I cannot resist the opportunity to say something sarcastic about the iPhone. But I think Apple is asking for it. Their self-professed “most advanced mobile operating system” now has such wonderful features as Cut, Copy and Paste. Yah, this part just doesn’t sound right. One of the other “new features” includes MMS. Wow. This is 2009. Cut, Copy and Paste, as well as MMS, are still counted as new features in certain mobile operating systems.
New Safari 4 Browser Released
The Safari 4 web browser has been officially launched and can be downloaded through your Mac’s Software Updates. The Safari 4 release also fixed one important bug that affected me enough that I gave up on the beta and downgraded back to Safari 3: yes, the various user interface bugs with Safari 4 beta and WordPress / TinyMCE has finally been squashed.
Mac OS X Snow Leopard and other Updates
The cat is out of the bag. The latest version of Apple’s Mac OS X operating system, code named Snow Leopard, will be launched in September. Current Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5) users can upgrade to Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6) for just US$29. That seems like a very reasonable upgrade price to pay.
Beggars Are Quite Choosy
We had something to dispose of and my wife thought to call the Salvation Army. We had an old sofa that we could donate to them. Now, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with our sofa. Other than the fabric being slightly dirty, the sofa was otherwise in very good condition. I was quite surprised that the Salvation Army actually said they wanted to view it first before deciding if they wanted to take it! Here we have people happy donate a…
Brother P-Touch PT-1010
After a long time trying to decide which labeling machine to buy, we finally settled on Brother. Although initially I was trying to be very objective about comparing costs and such, in the end we still went with Brother instead of Dymo (those were the two choices at Popular book store). I thought Brother was a more reputable, and they have been in the printing business for some time. Dymo may have been in the labeling business for a long…
A Decade Old Mobile Phone
It feels like stepping back in history and it sorts of feels so nostalgic holding this antiquated mobile phone. Surprisingly, its form factor isn’t all that antiquated. At least, it’s not one of those “big brother” mobile phone that could double up as a weapon any time. No, this is something more elegant, and one of the star phones in its hey days. It’s the Motorola StarTac X. It’s something I had in 1999, which makes it about 10 years…
103″ Plasma TV
Fancy a TV that costs over $100K? Yeah, that’s the super big Panasonic Plasma TV, which measures 103″ diagonally. That’s humongous. The price is also unreal. That’s the TV “featured” at Best Denki at Takashimaya. I was there a few nights ago to check out the TVs on offer, because I’m now on the look out for something to replace my dead 42″ Panasonic projection TV. Of course, the 103″ TV is out of my league. I’m looking for something…
Chirashi from New Garo
Sometimes it feels so boring that we keep going back to the same place, and even ordering the same food. But I suppose when the food is good, it makes sense to go back to something you know you’ll enjoy, instead of being adventurous all the time testing your luck with new food. The good food place we went to this time is New Garo Japanese Restaurant. It seems like I’ve posted about this restaurant many times.
