Beer Garden at NUS

It’s still under construction, but you can see that it is going to be a real nice chill out place. A commanding view overlooking a valley below, set in a garden of matured trees. Just the place to open a beer garden? — Posted from my N97 Share Online.

Road Chaos on Campus

With the new school year just around the corner, there are now an increasing number of people on campus. Crowds in the canteens, crowds at the bus stops, and stupidity on the roads. Stress levels are going up, and my stress level just went up because of two near accidents in the span of 1 minute.

Watching DVDs on Repeat Mode

It’s amazing sometimes how simple things can captivate the attention of a kid. Like watching a Barney DVD. Doesn’t matter that they have watched the DVD before. It doesn’t matter if they had only just finished watching the whole DVD, not even if it was the whole DVD two consecutive times over. They can still watch it as if they had never seen it before.

Fine Buses that Refuse to Stop

I have a suggestion to improve the Bus Service Standards formulated by our Public Transport Council: Include a benchmark that measures the number of times a bus is unable to pick up passengers from a bus stop when there are passengers wanting to board. Impose a fine based upon how badly a bus operator fails to meet the minimum standard.

10-Year Series for PSC Interviews

I thought it was interesting to find in the newspapers today two half-pages of articles on the topic of PSC scholarship interviews, and advise for future interviewees on what they should and should not do. It seems like PSC scholarship interviews have become more serious matter than job interviews. Are they going to start publishing 10-year series of PSC scholarship interview questions someday? Along with recommended model answers?

What Can I Use My Samsung Voucher On?

When you register a Samsung product warranty, you get a nice 15% discount voucher to be used on purchases at Samsung’s flagship store at VivoCity. Sounds good huh. I bought a 40″ LCD TV, which comes with a free 26″ LCD TV, and when I register the warranty online, I get yet more discounts. Yup. The problem with the discount voucher is the terms and conditions attached to it.

The Problem with Phone Upgrades

It happened when I upgraded my phone with M1 previously. It happened when I got a Hub Station with StarHub. Now the same thing happens with SingTel when I got my N97. I don’t know why these companies have to muck up your bill when you go through an “equipment upgrade”. They do the equivalent of terminating your service, and then reinstating the service. Since the service is simply being retained, why bother with the paper charade?

Cupcakes Singapore

Cupcakes seem to be the rage in Singapore now. For Ian’s full month bash, we had cupcakes from both Cupcake Momma as well as Crystal Jade. Cupcake Momma has been doing cupcakes for some time, Crystal Jade is relatively more recent. Since we had both cupcakes, it’s easy to compare them. So how does Cupcake Momma and Crystal Jade cupcakes fare?

Ian’s Full Month Bash

We celebrated Ian’s first month today. It’s actually tomorrow, but today is a Sunday and it’s a better choice than a Monday. The catering today was quite massive. We were embarrassed to have run out of food for Vanessa’s first month, so I guess we tried to make sure we had more than enough this time around.
