Mobile Phone and PDA Setup

More people than ever are carrying around smart phones these days. That includes our students here at NUS too. The IT service desk here is seeing a marked increase in the number of students, as well as some staff too of course, seeking help to get their Nokia phones or whatever other Windows Mobile smart phones/PDAs setup to connect to the NUS campus wireless network.

Front Page Headline Typo

It’s unusual to see so obvious typos in our Straits Times. But today something just popped out as I picked up the papers. Yes, a misspelling right on the front page headline. — Posted from my N97 Share Online.

Vanessa Doing Pull-Ups

This is Vanessa, doing her version of pull-ups, at the fitness corner. She refers to it as “playground”. But it’s not a playground. She likes hanging from the low bars. Yeah, the real pull-up bars are way too high for her to reach. But she knows what they are for. She points to it and tells me, “Papa, do up?”

Week 0 at NUS

This week is what’s known in NUS as Week 0. It’s freshmen orientation week. The week where everyone (students, that is) are still having fun. The campus, surprisingly, is not as crowded as I had anticipated it to be. We were able to find seats during lunch, even during the peak lunch hour. But there was one place that was unusually crowded, and that was one place that I had to visit.

How an IT Engineer Fixed His Home PC

The symptoms: No beep, no video. Sounds bad. What happened at the start was that the PC, which runs Linux full-time, had become unreachable over the network. There was nothing on the video, and keyboard/mouse provoked no response. The PC has not hung in a very long while, but perhaps it did for some strange reason this time. Nevermind, hit the reboot button. No beep, no video. Okay, power cycle. Still, no beep, no video.

We Visit New Garo Again

I think we seriously deserve a discount card at New Garo. We were going to takeaway a quick dinner at one of the eateries along Cheong Chin Nam Road. Probably something like chicken rice. However, we ended up dining at New Garo.We thought Vanessa was getting hungry, and rather than wait till we get back home to feed her, why not just dine there, and then, chicken rice gave way to New Garo.

Kid’s Loft

Vanessa just completed one of the “school term” at Kid’s Loft last week. She’s seen here waiting patiently for her certificate of attendance. I suppose you could say it’s sort of like a graduation certificate, even though it’s just graduation from a 9-week term. It seems Vanessa quite enjoys her classes at Kid’s Loft, particularly the music classes.

Everyone’s Sick

For the last few weeks, someone or other has been sick. In fact, at one point in time, everyone was all sick together. It started with Vanessa, then to Mummy, then to Papa, Ian, and our maid. Our medicine chart started to become very complicated, particularly when both Vanessa and Ian each had a handful of medicine to take at many different times of the day. It was becoming a little difficult to remember who had taken what and when.
