Monopoly City Streets

The current hot game on the Internet is Monopoly City Streets. So hot that it crashed on day one. So hot that it had to be reset. So hot that on the day it as reincarnated, it ran into trouble again. If you’ve not yet heard, Hashbro, the company behind the popular Monopoly board game, has teamed up with Google to bring Monopoly City Streets online using the entire world through Google Maps as your virtual board.

Vanessa’s First Blog Posting

No, not the first blog posting about our two year old daughter, but the first blog posting by our Vanessa. It’s her first ever post to a blog, at just a tender age of about 2 years and 5 months. Kids these days start early huh! I am totally surprised too, when I found out about the posting. How did it happen? Well, I discovered it by chance actually. I noticed that my blog was updated. But I hadn’t posted…

Vanessa and Ian on Facebook

The two kids now have their own Facebook account. They don’t quite yet have their own email accounts though. Their email addresses are currently aliases that simply forward to my email account. It’s too bad that my preferred Facebook usernames for them have already been taken. Even my preferred usernames for them on Gmail have also been taken up. Yeah, it can never be too early to sign up for these things.

The Disabled’s Toilet

I came across this sign on a toilet door recently: Disabled’s Toilet. I thought it sounded crude. Usually such toilet facilities are labeled as “Handicap Toilet”, or at least that is the case I most often see in Singapore. We have handicap parking lots, handicap access, etc. So I was a little surprised to see this sign. My 4th generation iPod Nano has become feature-obsolete.

09/09/09 09:09

Today, and this time of day particularly, is one of those special moments in time where the day, month, year, hour and minute are all the same. It seems like a good time to post some rant at this auspicious minute. Yeah, I missed 08/08/08 08:08, but I’m sure this will do just as well. It will be a busy day (like any other day of course), but I’m sure I can find a few minutes to gripe about something.

Keeping WordPress Secure

A hot topic going around in WordPress circles now is a worm making its rounds hijacking vulnerable WordPress installations, and how just a little effort on the part of administrators could have saved the trouble of cleaning up after the worm. This is the inevitable problem with IT security. No matter how hard developers try to make a software safe and secure, easy to update, and respond quickly to new emerging threats, it is never enough for some users. Someone,…

Cod Fish Bento at Guild House

A colleague wanted to celebrate his birthday, so he treated a few of us to a meal at Cafe on the Ridge, a F&B outlet at the NUSS Guild House in Kent Ridge Campus. Usually I have the Nasi Goreng Kampung, but this time I decided to try their daily express set lunch promotion, which for that day, was a Japanese cod fish bento set. It’s pictured here, and it also comes with miso soup.

The President Visits My Workplace

Yes, President  S R Nathan came by today, not to visit me, but just to visit my workplace. I’m not important enough, so I had to sneak a photo shot from far back, behind a glass wall. Hence the strange reflections you see in this photo.
