Boomz and Shingz

I’m surprised how much momentum Ris Low’s brand of English has gained in such a short period of time. I can imagine there will be lots of talk around town about Boomz and Shingz. It’s on TV, it’s on radio, it’s on the Internet in various forms. Then, what did I see? Boomz, at a shop. Oh. A series of clothing based on Ris Low’s English.

Mobile Phone with a Giant Charger

I’ve been poking fun at the owner of this HTC Magic phone. You see, its battery doesn’t last very long, so he often keeps it charging. The funny thing is that the charger is humongous. It’s like 17″ diagonal. It’s pretty heavy too. In fact, it is so large and so advanced that it even comes with a huge LCD screen, and a keyboard too. Yeah, the charger is actually a MacBook Pro.

Finally, the much awaited, possibly the most anticipated in all history of Nokia phone software update, v20 firmware for the Nokia N97 has started to roll out. First heard on the Nokia Discussion Forum posting by jauhis, a Nokia employee who started appearing on the forums recently with hints about the v20 release, the news and upgrading reports are now making its way around the Internet.

My Bread!

No, my bread, no share! Sometimes Vanessa can get a little bit possessive with her food. Unless she doesn’t like it, or until she realizes she doesn’t like it…

Fisherio’s Fish and Chip

This is the Fish and Chip lunch from a few weekends ago, at Fisherio in the basement food area of Takashimaya Shopping Centre. This is the beer batter fish. It’s really nice. The outside is crisp and crunchy. The fish is fresh and succulent. You can see how nice it looks in the photo. Sometimes I wonder why some places can serve good fish, while others cannot. Sometimes even the same place can’t consistently serve the same goodness.

The NUS Beer Garden

I’ve been joking about this beer garden in NUS for some time, even before construction actually started. After many months of waiting, this timber deck overlooking the valley behind Kent Ridge was finally ready. When it was officially completed… surprise, surprise, a variety of beer was served in its opening event. It really has quite a nice view of the trees on the slope of Kent Ridge. But knowing the weather in Singapore, and the general dislike of the hot…

Lardy Food from a Hospital

Look at the large pieces of fried lard, and they were plentiful. This is from a hospital. No, it’s not the hospital’s catering for their patients, but the food served in the canteen. Still, you’d have thought that the canteen would have been more health-conscious. I guess the stall operators don’t care. If customers want lardy food, they’ll serve lardy food.

The Plastic MacBook Lives On

Even though Apple has progressively upgraded all its MacBooks to aluminum unibody designs and rebranded them MacBook Pros, the white plastic wasn’t expected to die just yet. This has been reaffirmed by it’s latest upgrade in yesterday’s surprise product announcement from Apple. The plastic MacBook now features a polycarbonate unibody design, LED backlight screen, glass multitouch trackpad and a built-in battery pushing battery life to 7 hours.

iDon’t: What The iPhone Doesn’t Do

Verizon, a big telco in the US, has started a commercial and an ad campaign to attack the iPhone. It’s really hilarious. iDon’t have a real keyboard. iDon’t run simultaneous apps. iDon’t take night shots. iDon’t allow open development. iDon’t customize. iDon’t run widgets. iDon’t have interchangeable batteries. Everything iDon’t. DroidDoes. See the DroidDoes website, or the commercial on YouTube.
