After my last post on the Microsoft browser ballot, where I criticized the kind of descriptions that were used, I thought why not run a trial ballot to see what sort of results we would get. So here it is. If you have not read my last post, don’t, at least not until you’re done with this vote. I will tell you enough about it in here so you know what this ballot is all about.

Balloting for Your Browser
European PC users are going to have to make a unique choice when they install their next Windows PC: Choose a web browser. This comes about because of their anti anti-competitiveness stance, and their objection against Microsoft’s integration of Internet Explorer with the Windows operating system. So installing Windows PC in Europe, in future, users are going to be presented with a selection of five choices of browsers to install.
The Vision of Jackie Chan Fighting Virii
This was another guest lecture I attended this week. It’s the boss of the company who engaged Jackie Chan to fight virii for its TV commercial we’ve been seeing on our TV screens. Yes, Eugene Kaspersky. The title of his talk? Check it out in the photo on left. Eugene shared his vision for a secure Internet. He’s idealistic. But I suppose visions can be idealistic. Unfortunately, the steps to achieve that vision were also unrealistic. But then again, I…
M1 to Sell iPhones
Local telco M1 is set to become the second carrier to officially sell the iPhone in Singapore, according to this MacNN post. This will happen before the end of this year. Currently, iPhones are available exclusively through SingTel, which started selling iPhones since the iPhone 3G model in 2008. This new deal between M1 and Apple will set the stage for greater competition in iPhone sales, and we’d expect more aggressive phone prices and subscription rates.
Jack Neo Guest Lecture
We had a treat today – a guest lecture by Jack Neo and Boris Boo. The guest lecture was for a course in Digital Media Production. The main star was Jack Neo, of course, and although I wasn’t expecting to hear anything relevant to my work, or even directly relevant to the course, it was nevertheless an opportunity to meet and hear from a local celebrity and producer/directory of several successful movie productions.
What Does SingTel’s EPL Win Mean
If SingTel plays their cards right, I think they’re going to win lots of customers. Their win of the English Premier League broadcast rights in Singapore last week surprised many people. The immediate reaction of most people was one of worry of how much it would cost them to watch soccer in the coming years. It costs quite a lot to watch soccer with StarHub. Will they have to pay just as much with SingTel? Or perhaps more, considering that…
Papa, Baby Vanessa and Little Brother Ian
The little brother Ian doesn’t join us very often, that is, playing around on the bed with Papa, Mama and baby Vanessa. We’re slowly trying to make some time for everyone to play together. Of course, the little brother Ian just watches most of the time since he’s still too little. I noticed we’re (or at least I am) still referring to Vanessa as the baby, and Ian usually as “didi” (little brother), only occasionally also as baby. The “didi”…
Schedule for Nokia N97 v20 Software Release
Hot on the heels of the Nokia N97 v12 software update (which was about 1 month late for me), we are now hearing news about the impending release of the major v20 software update. That is, if the unofficial reports on the Internet are to be believed. Nokia has said the v20 software will be released in October, so it is about time now anyway, assuming of course that the software ships on time. The v20 software is much anticipated,…
Papa and Baby Ian
Baby Ian is like 3 and a half months old by now, but actually he hasn’t gotten a lot of attention from Papa and Mama. It’s because there are people around to look after him, and Vanessa has been running around getting our attention and keeping us occupied. Some day when Ian grows up and starts reading this blog, he might notice and sulk that he is being featured less than Vanessa. So let’s write some nice things about baby…
Long Wait for Nokia Phone Software Updates
The Nokia N97 software v12.0.024 became available on 18 Aug 2009. While many lucky users elsewhere were able to install the update over the next few days or weeks, some others like myself were not so lucky. I eventually got my update on 29 Sep 2009, but it was for v12.0.026. It’s like there was an additional small little fix that Nokia needed to put in. I don’t know if this was the reason for the delayed availability of the…
