I couldn’t wait any longer, so I did what I had to do, and now have my Nokia N97 upgraded to the latest v20 software. It’s quite amazing. It’s now as if the Nokia N97 is a new phone. The phone feels noticeably more snappy in response, the so-called C: drive has more space free (by about 8MB only), and there is kinetic scrolling just about everywhere. This is what the Nokia N97 should have been when it was launched…

Colours of Conversation
I just attended a course on communication skills last week. I was hoping to pick up some tips on making conversation, in order to better network with other people. People networking is an important part of work, especially when you move up whichever corporate ladder it is that you’re climbing. This is one of those soft skills that one has to polish up in order to work effectively.
Apple Wins Judgement Against Mac Cloner Pystar
Apple has won a decisive victory over Pystar, the clone computer maker which sells Mac OS X preloaded on non-Apple hardware. The summary judgement won by Apple ruled that Pystar had violated copyright laws and violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). It sounds like the road is ending for Pystar. It sounds like this should be the obvious outcome, but I think many of us are simply shocked at Pystar’s vigorous attacks against Apple and wondered if they…
Firefox the Most Vulnerable Browser
It seems quite surprising to me to learn about this. After all, didn’t Firefox try to market itself as the safer, more secure alternative to browse the web than Microsoft Internet Explorer? Furthermore, considering that hackers tend to focus their exploit efforts on the most popular web browser for maximum impact, and Microsoft Internet Explorer still takes top place in the browser market share, you wouldn’t expect Firefox to take the number one spot for being most vulnerable.
Software Updates Week
There’re plenty of software updates this week. First up was for Snow Leopard which is updated to Mac OS X 10.6.2, which contains quite a number of fixes (58, apparently) including an important one that involves data loss. Then, the Safari web browser itself, whose updates are distributed separately from Mac OS X, was updated to version 4.0.4. It fixes some security vulnerabilities, and improves performance and stability. Finally, there is also the update to Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac…
Astons Specialties
We were recently at Astons Specialties for lunch. This is the branch at Cathay. We were there at about 12:30pm on a Sunday, and there was a moderately long queue formed up outside the restaurant. I was slightly surprised, because I didn’t consider Cathay to be such a frequented area. But anyhow, we didn’t have to queue very long, because a big group left and a lot of tables were freed up.
Cheese Fries at Megabites Cafe
In a recent lunch at Megabites Cafe in NUS, I noticed they had a promotion for Cheese Fries. It’s $2.50. I thought why not give it a try, order a portion to share. I was surprised that the portion turned out to be quite sizable. The cheese was nice, and the fries was just merely passable. The issue I have with it is that the serving was not hot enough. In fact I would consider it barely warm. I think…
StarHub to Sell iPhones
StarHub has announced that it will be starting to sell the Apple iPhone later this year. M1 already earlier announced their deal to sell the Apple iPhone, also slated to commence by year end. These sales will break SingTel’s monopoly over the offering of these phones since 2008. Neither M1 nor StarHub has announced pricing of the phones and subscription plans. With the iPhone now generally available through any of the telcos in Singapore, we can imagine competition to heat…
The Meaning of Shingz
I’ve just noticed that Shingz has become the top searched phrase that led to my blog, some 14 times more so than the next phrase. As a word on its own, it’s in number two place. In fact, if you just search for shingz right now on Google, the number one entry in the search result leads to this site. Oh my, I am riding on the popularity of Boomz and Shingz, and the success of Ris Low’s brand of…
Buddy Hoagies
Some time ago, a friend introduced me to this nice little cafe restaurant, Buddy Hoagies, located in a quiet shopping centre, Bukit Timah Shopping Centre. This is one of the kind of place that you’re never going to find on your own, unless someone tells you about it, and perhaps even having to bring you there. It’s located in the basement, and even though it can be accessed directly from outside the shopping centre, it is below road level so…
