Photo Collage Software for Mac OS X

20100108937

I don’t often write about “simple” applications (i.e. one with quite specific purpose), but this is an interesting one. I was trying to assemble a bunch of photos together. The only tool I had on my Mac was Photoshop. Photoshop can definitely get the job done, but it was overkill. It was just too much work for a simple task. There has got to be some simple application that was built just to do these sort of things. So, I…

A Feast at the Grand Mercure Roxy

20120223_191417

The Grand Mercure Roxy, a quiet hotel nestled in the heart of historical Katong, just opposite the bustling Parkway Parade shopping mall, recently launched its brand new renovated facilities at Level 4. A bunch of bloggers and myself were invited to a networking session to peek at the new facilities. Katong is actually quite a long way off from my work place, but I used to stay in the area some 20 over years ago, and I haven’t been there…

$78K for the Right to Own a Car

13072009247

It now costs some $78,100 for that piece of paper that says you can buy a car like this. That’s the price of a Cat ‘B’ COE from yesterday’s tender exercise. The last time that COE hit this level was in 1994, when it was still under a 7-category scheme. At that time, the equivalent of today’s Cat ‘B’ is divided into two categories, Cat 3 (cars from 1601 cc to 2000 cc) and Cat 4 (cars above 2000 cc)….

Scrap Car Value in Singapore

11122008690

I’m quite flattered that Google search for “scrap car value in Singapore” currently leads right to my site. It’s the first hit in the search results. The hit, however, leads to outdated information that I wrote probably in around 2002. Since many netizens are obviously going to want to know updated information, I’ve decided to provide a public service by writing this post providing updated information. There is also an online query that tells you exactly the de-registration value of…

Vanessa, Ian and Isaac

DSC_1251

We have three kids! Most people are quite surprised to hear we have three children. We are certainly doing much more than the national average of 1.20 (or 1.08 amongst Chinese). I am, myself, also quite amazed that we’ve come to have three beautiful children, especially when I look at them enjoying each other’s company. Sure, Vanessa and Ian fight from time to time, and little Isaac is stil oblivious to everything, but looking at a photo like this, I…

Celebrating Isaac’s Full Month

412008_10150566343334064_609094063_9060197_1467981036_o

We just celebrated Isaac’s full month last evening. It’s actually a few days late, but we figured it would be a lot more convenient for everyone to have the celebration on a weekend rather than on the actual day of the full calendar month which would have fallen on a weekday. We split the party into overlapping sessions, with relatives coming earlier at 4:30pm while friends later at 6:30pm. It’s the best compromise between squeezing in everyone together at the…

Silly Names in the Linux World

20120216_111557

From time to time, when I try to pretend to be a noob user, I find myself having to complain about Linux. The user experience, in my opinion, is just not there yet. Over a decade ago, when I was interviewed about whether Linux was ready for prime time, my answer was that it wasn’t, but but that it was getting there. Every other year or so, when I ask myself again this question, my answer has invariably been the…
