University Education as a Consumer Good

It’s an interesting thought. What if one day, you select a university education by comparing prices, facilities, location, bundled freebies, guarantees, loan schemes, and reviews? What if one day, your university education is purchased just like you purchase other expensive consumer product or service? Like a car, or a 1 year body slimming package? Universities go out to advertise their courses and degrees, offering promotions and discounts, frequent flyer miles, free computers?

Professorship Is Apparently A High Risk Job

I’d never guess, but apparently professorship can be rated as a high risk job. In our tiny island of Singapore, look at how many professors have been injured on the job. It seems like the university can be very much as stressful an environment as the “outside” commercial world. Who would have thought so? Perhaps our students and academia are too strung up. Okay, clearly so, our education system in Singapore is far too competitive.
