You may own some Wi-Fi 6 devices by now, so perhaps it is time to look for a Wi-Fi 6 mesh system. D-Link’s newest addition to their COVR mesh system family, the COVR-X1870, could be something for you to consider.
The COVR-X1870 is D-Link’s first Wi-Fi 6 whole-home mesh Wi-Fi system. It can deliver speeds up to 1200 Mbps on the 5 Ghz band and 574 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band.
There is no dedicated wireless backhaul, so in a mesh setup, some of the wireless bandwidth will be taken up by the node to node backhaul communication. You can, however, use a wired backhaul connection so that all the wireless bandwidth can be used by your devices.
Each unit comes with four Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports, and one Gigabit Ethernet WAN port. Either one can be used for your Internet uplink. The bunch of LAN ports make it easy to connect up multiple wired devices. Beside these ports, there’s a WPS button, power button and a DC barrel jack.
Setup is easy and straight-forward. If you are familiar with other D-Link Wi-Fi router setups, this is no different. The D-Link Wi-Fi mobile app take you through a guided step-by-setup install. The usual features like port-forwarding, firewall, parental controls, and traffic prioritisation are supported.
The COVR-X1870 supports Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa integration. This is cool, but mostly gimmicky, though you could impress visitors to your home by turning on and off Guest Wi-Fi with your voice.
This dual-pack bundle is designed to cover homes up to 5500 square feet. With three or four mesh nodes, you can cover larger spaces up to 8000 square feet or 10000 square feet respectively.
The D-Link COVR-X1870 comes with power adapters, including different plug heads, and a RJ45 Ethernet cable.
Great whole-home Wi-Fi coverage has become quite important to many home users. Whether you want the Wi-Fi 6 upgrade, or simply need to cover some Wi-Fi dead spots, you should check out D-Link’s COVR-X1870. The COVR-X1870 is also good for those who need a bunch of Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports, particularly if you need to connect up NAS storage boxes and other wired devices.
The dual-pack D-Link COVR-X1870 bundle has a MSRP of $259, though the street price can be much lower. Right now, it sells for $193 from D-Link’s flagship store on Lazada.
