As the 2021 year draws to a close, you might feel inclined to change things around you a little bit as you prepare for 2022. A new colour, perhaps. Well, Pantone has got you covered, and Microsoft has brought a new colour theme to Windows 11.
Pantone, the colour company best know for their Pantone Colour Matching System used to standardise colours, has selected Veri Peri as the colour for the year 2022. In layman’s terms, this is something like a blueish purple, or purplish blue. The name Veri Peri basically comes from “very periwinkle”, and the prewinkle colour is one in the blue and violet family.
For those interested, the HTML hex code for Veri Peri works out to be #6667AB.
Microsoft has released a new Windows 11 theme to celebrate this Pantone Cololour of the Year 2022. You can get this theme from the Microsoft Store. I’m not sure, but I believe you ought to be able to use this theme in Windows 10 as well.
This new Pantone Colour of the Year 2022 theme comes with four variations of background which are rotated in turn as a slideshow. If, like me, you prefer your desktop fixed on one specific background, you can access the classic Desktop Background control panel applet by running this in the Windows shell (type Win+R):
shell:::{ED834ED6-4B5A-4bfe-8F11-A626DCB6A921} -Microsoft.Personalization\pageWallpaper
From there, you can just fix the background, or choose a different subset to rotate within.
Have fun preparing for 2022. Have you upgraded to Windows 11?
