Yep, I think there’s more of the snow-skin (which, perhaps, may nowadays be considered traditional), ice-cream, and jelly types. Oh yes, not forgetting all the fillings of chocolates, durians, etc. Many of these were, clearly, adapted to appeal more to Singaporean’s tastebuds.
What is Mid-Autumn Festival nowadays? When I was young, it was about carrying lanterns. Those flammable ones, with a real burning candle inside that, if you’re not careful, will destroy the lantern in a hurry. Nowadays, lanterns have become balloons with light bulbs or LED lights, and sometimes with very annoying sounds included. Not so fun anymore. At least not for me. I suppose the kids nowadays do prefer these modernized lanterns.
Now, instead of lanterns, the mooncakes have become the main focus of Mid-Autumn Festival for me. Eating (and shopping) is definitely one of the main national past-times of Singaporeans. I’m sure we’re totally spoilt for choice.
I don’t seem to have many mooncakes this year. The one pictured above is from Bakerzin’s Moon Rabbit Mooncake Collection.
