Android Partners With KitKat

_DSC9576

The news just out a day ago is that Google has named the next version of Android, version 4.4, after the confectionary KitKat. I’m rather surprised at the partnership Google has forged with Nestle over the name. Maybe Google has struggled with finding a suitable dessert name and couldn’t think of anything less clumsy than key lime pie (which, honestly, I don’t know what it is).

At least KitKat would be a pretty recognisable name.

It could be a great market strategy from Nestle. However, it seems like they didn’t initiate the deal. Better yet, according to BBC, this even a money-changing-hands kind of deal. Yes, I did wonder who was paying whom for the use of the name.

Alas, apart from the name, nothing much has been revealed about Android 4.4 itself. Nestle, on the other hand, has been very busy with new advertisements and a cool new updated website, using both design and language to sell their confectionary as if it were a brand new flagship technology product. I’m sure you’ll recognise phrases like:

Every corner, every edge, every finger, of every bar has been carefully considered and crafted to create this beautifully immersive and multi-sensory experience.

Alright, that was a mouthful. But there are smaller bites like: “There’s a KitKat for that”, “Unlimited standby time”, “Universal compatibility”, and many more.

If you need a break, have a check out their new website.
