OnePlus 2 Launch

The OnePlus 2 Launch in virtual reality is truly a really unique experience. Instead of being a passive audience watching a presentation on stage, OnePlus makes it feel like you’re part of the whole experience. But you’re more interested in the phone, so let’s just move right on to that, and I’ll talk more about the VR launch later.

As it turns out, most of the leaked info we have is pretty much on target. To recap, here are the main points:

New details revealed at the launch:

In terms of physical design, the OnePlus 2 has some similarities with the original One. There’s no logo on the front, as before. It seems to have been tweaked with nice chamfered edges. You can check out some detailed photos on XDA.

OnePlus’ moto, Never Settle, unfortunately, is being challenged with some notably missing features. First, the screen resolution is just 1080p. I honestly don’t mind 1080p, but in this game of keeping up with the Joneses, it seems like we couldn’t say the 2 is clearly a flagship killer. More notably, however, there’s no NFC. What?! Yes, no NFC. No QuickCharge either.

The VR launch event is a really unique, fun, and immersive experience. We get to tour OnePlus’ office, and listen to Carl Pei bring the viewers around as he talks to fans, experiences with the OnePlus 2, and of course about the OnePlus 2 itself. You can actually look around in 360°. The only trouble is that, well, if the action is happening behind you, you do really have to physically turn around.

The OnePlus 2 will be available in US, Canada, India, EU and China on August 11. It will be rolled out in South-East Asia from Q4 2015. They will setup pop-up stores in 9 of their most popular countries in the world.

And… you want to know the price right: US$329 for 16GB and US$389 for 64GB.
