Ian’s First Concert

DSC00639

This is Ian at his first concert. It’s actually his second, but he didn’t perform in the first one, last year, so this is the first where he’s performing in. Last year, he was too scared. The teachers were prepared for it, because he kept wanting out from the many practices and rehearsals. This year, he’s totally a brave young boy, thoroughly enjoying himself. That, despite others around him having the the jitters. He was also brave enough to be…

Snow and Avalanche at Tanglin Mall

DSC00382

Every December, for the last many years, Tanglin Mall has been having this Christmas “feature”. Snow and avalanche will arrive every night to the tremendous delight of all the kids. Artificial snow and avalanche, of course. In the hot and tropical climate that we have in Singapore, we’ll never see real snow falling from the sky here. For many Singaporeans, this is as good as it gets. The schedule hasn’t changed from previous years. Avalanche starts daily from 7:30pm, followed…

A Healthy Wrapped Lunch

IMG_20121112_135548

Singaporeans are getting more conscious about eating heathy. Yet, grabbing a quick bite often means going for the not-so-healthy fast food. If you’re looking for more healthy lunch choices, well, here’s a new one. It’s the newly launched Simply Wrapps. They will officially launch on 2 Dec, but they are already open now at the newly revamped 100 AM shopping mall adjacent to the Amara Hotel. Their location on the 3rd storey at #03-22 will not easily draw in lunch…

Riding on Public Transport

IMG_20121112_144052

When I was young, I wasn’t that excited about taking the bus. That’s what I can recall, anyway. There were no trains then, of course, other than the ones that go across the causeway. My two kids, on the other hand, are quite excited about taking public transport. Ian, particularly, is just crazily excited about trains. Good thing for him that trains are fully air-conditioned, as are all the underground MRT stations. It was the car that was the novelty,…

WD TV Live Streaming Media Player Review

IMG_20121027_133413

The Western Digital WD TV Live Streaming Media Player is really fascinating. It’s such a small box, but it packs so many features, and it does them all so well. I just got hold of one and I’ve quite impressed. Streaming media players have been around for many years, but it’s still not quite that ubiquitous here in Singapore. It will change, no doubt. Television has changed so much in the last decade. This is the third generation of Western…

Mid-Autumn Festival

IMG_20120922_213513

It’s just two more days to the mid-autumn festival on 30th September. If you’ve not gotten your mooncakes, there’s still just a little time left. Or perhaps you could wait for a day more and get a good bargain on these pricey delicacies. These days, the “normal” mooncakes are no longer the traditional mooncakes. Yep, I think there’s more of the snow-skin (which, perhaps, may nowadays be considered traditional), ice-cream, and jelly types. Oh yes, not forgetting all the fillings…

High-End Audio Show

IMG_20120826_135416

Can you imagine an audio system that cost in the region of $500K? Yes, that’s not a typo. High-end audiophile equipment can seriously put a huge hole in your pocket. Or, at these prices, probably a lot more than your pocket will get completely obliterated. This year’s MOD DAC event is already over, but you can look out for next year’s. If you think these audiophile equipment are just unthinkably pricey, well, at least you can experience it for free…

West Coast Park Playground

IMG_20120820_101507

Not all playgrounds are equal. Some are simple, some others are a little bigger and have more play features. Then, there are others like this one at West Coast Park that is really quite big, and fitted with much more than average play features you’d expect from any other playground. If you’re thinking this is a fee-charging facility, it isn’t. Just a big free public playground. Although it’s next to the sea, there’s not much beach. The small little miserable…

Alexandra Arch and Forest Walk

IMG_20120820_111117

On a recent public holiday, after breakfast and some playground time, I convinced my two elder kids to go on a tree-top walk. You know, the one at Alexandra Village. At least, that was what I thought it was called. I became confused when I tried to Google for more information before we got there. For the record, the correct name of this tree-top walk is the Southern Ridges Forest Walk. We started our walk from Hort Park at Hyderabad…
