My colleagues and I are regular fans of the Nasi Goreng Kampung served at the Cafe On The Ridge (NUSS Guild House at Kent Ridge Campus). We are so familiar with the dish that if something has changed about it, we would probably notice. At our last visit, we did notice a change. Check out the photo on the left, compare it with another one from one of our previous visits. Do you notice something different?
Okay, it was prawn cracker before but papadum now. This was specially requested. I like papadum a lot, and although I’m fine with prawn crackers as well, given the choice I would definitely choose papadum.
But that’s not the “startling” change that we noted. It was a more “grievous error”. My colleague called a waiter over and asked, what happened to the prawns that we used to get with the Nasi Goreng Kampung? It is stated in the menu, isn’t it, that there are prawns in the dish?
The waiter apologized and left to check. He eventually came back with our prawns. Two rather large prawns, served on a dish. Three of us ordered the Nasi Goreng Kampung, and we all got our individual dishes of prawns. It looks bigger than before. I wonder if the prawns had been upgraded because of their oversight. Not complaining of course. The prawns were really quite good.
The Nasi Goreng Kampung, by the way, is about the most value-for-money item at Cafe On The Ridge. The dish, which includes fried rice, chicken drumstick, mutton rendang, achar, prawn cracker (which we changed to papadum this time), fried egg, and oh yes the prawns… costs just $8.50.
