One of the hassles of car ownership is having to get the car serviced at regular intervals. The 1km servicing for my new Honda Stream came up, and so I spent pretty much of my morning today at Kah Motor’s Leng Kee service centre. There are a bunch of other locations to choose from, but people seem to recommend going to Leng Kee. It’s basically the same place as the showroom.

Heater Still Needed In Hot Singapore
Yes, sometimes you still need a heater instead of cold air-conditioning even in the hot Singapore weather. Previously my Honda Civic had a heater mode. I would have thought that it would be quite useless in our local climate. But when my Altis did not come with a heater, I was surprised to find myself missing the feature. Yes, there are days when you get into your car after it has been raining all day and drive off, you actually…
Inferior RikeCool Clarity from Kah Motor
Most people will try to negotiate some freebies with their new car purchase. One item that often gets packaged together is solar film installation. Solar films are designed to tint the glass and reduce the amount of heat absorbed by the car’s interior. Given Singapore’s hot climate, this is a very practical add-on that is often sought after by many car owners.
Clothes Dryer In A Honda Stream
The multi-purpose flexibility of our new Honda Stream has already been put to good use. We transported a clothes dryer. It was actually enough to just fold down the 3rd row seats. But it didn’t fit after padding the sides and back with stiff cardboard. The tailgate could not close because my cardboard was too high. So in the end, I folded down one of the 2nd row seats as well.
The Stream Is Here
My new Honda Stream is finally here. The car is exactly as expected. It is no surprise, because in the age of the Internet nowadays, we can do lots of research online, particularly reading the first-hand honest reviews from drivers who don’t make a living out of writing reviews. Yet at the same time, I am discovering so many new things, both good and bad, about the car.
Mandatory Get Out Of My Way Scheme
LTA recently announced their new Mandatory Give Way to Buses Scheme to commence from 20 Dec 2008. I’m thinking that nowadays buses are getting too much privileges. Very soon, they might just as well have a Mandatory Get Out Of My Way Scheme for buses. Public buses already enjoy their “normal bus lanes”, as well as the more recent not-so-normal “special bus lanes”. They also have the priority B-Signal at some traffic lights. Do they really need anymore privileges?
But Of Course COE Has To Go Up
The $2 COE has to go up, what else did you expect? The 1st bidding exercise for December 2008 has just concluded, and the Cat A COE that fell to a record $2 last month has been “corrected” to $7721. COE in all categories except Cat C have gone up as well: Cat B to $6501 (was $4889), Cat D to $1102 (was $1012), and Cat E to $7589 (was $7401). Cat C quota premium fell from $6189 to $5212.
Car Accident With NUS Bus
Some months ago, a bus collided into my car. I was fortunate that there was video footage to capture the entire accident, including the fact that the bus driver simply drove off. The matter is finally over, so I feel okay to share some details about the incident, and in particular why this is all so infuriating.
Honda Stream vs Toyota Wish
Several months ago, I was down at Leng Kee to look the Honda Stream and Toyota Wish. Having heard so many horror stories about parallel importers, I prefer to deal with the authorized agents. At that time, Borneo Motors had just started to bring in the Toyota Wish. Kah Motors had been selling the Honda Stream for a while. It was a good time to start researching the two car models.
$2 COE Record
COE prices for Category A (Cars 1600cc and below, and taxis) have fallen to $2 in the latest round of COE bidding. Surely a sign of the economic gloom ahead. Prices in all categories have fallen. The biggest drop, of course was for Category A which fell from $10,445 to just $2, with just one more bid received than quota the available. Still does not beat the $1 record though, but close enough.
