ieatishootipost Annual General Makan 2011

ieatishootipost's Leslie Tay telling us something about the Boston Lobster

16th December 2011 was the date of ieatishootipost’s AGM (Annual General Makan). It’s their 2nd Crab Fest, and the highlight of this dinner, held at Chin Huat Live Seafood at Sunset Way, was the 5 crabs and 1 lobster dish. The Wife signed us up for the makan fest. This is the first makan outing I’ve been to with ieatishootipost, and it also isn’t the usual kind of blogger makan outing. I’ve been so looking forward to this makan since,…

Breakfast at Cafe Cartel

2011-11-06 11.09.38

The whole family visited Cafe Cartel for breakfast a few days ago. The kids wanted McDonalds, the Wife wanted something Chinese, and in the end we compromised. What the kids really wanted was hash brown, and Cafe Cartel does serve hash brown. (It wasn’t good enough for Vanessa though, she had to have McDonald’s hash brown…) So we sat down, flipped through the breakfast menu, and placed our orders. Pretty simple and straight forward.

20110922_190123

Do you sometimes want to order food in when you’re feeling too lazy to go out, but you have second thoughts thinking about how delivery could take longer than you care to wait? Well, how would you like to have pizza delivered to your door step, fast, and guaranteed? That’s the promise of Domino’s Pizza. Their tagline, “The World’s No. 1 Pizza Delivery Company” says a lot about their commitment. You’ll get your pizza in 30 minutes, otherwise they’ll give…

Modernisation of Ng Ah Sio

20110918_081302

This is the new Ng Ah Sio Pork Rib Soup Eating House. If you haven’t heard of or been to this place, you could be forgiven for thinking it looks like Ya Kun Kaya Toast. Or perhaps you might think it’s a new business spin off from Ya Kun Kaya Toast, seeing that this looks like a full-service restaurant, not quite the same self-service concept of the usual Ya Kun Kaya Toast. But it’s totally not so. It’s the modernised…

Basilico at The Regent Singapore

IMG_20110726_115834

I was recently at The Regent Singapore for a workshop. Lunch time came, and I had expected that it would be a standard buffet setup in the reception outside, or perhaps in an adjacent function room. That’s the typical lunch arrangement for most IT events. However, we were instead led to Basilico, a refined dining restaurant in the hotel. I was pleasantly surprised. It is nice to sit down to a nice lunch once a while, and Basilico certainly sounded…

BLU Ultimate Dining Experience

SAM_0091

I recently went on the BLU Ultimate Dining Experience. Huh, what’s that? That’s exactly what I thought when I received the voucher as a birthday present. The voucher said BLU Ultimate Dining Experience for 2 Persons, and apart from that it had something to do with the Shangri-La hotel (and of course that it was about eating…), I had no idea what that was about. Google wasn’t much help.

Food Junction at Central Square (NUS)

My one-word summary: Fail. I know, it is day one of operation. But this is Food Junction. They are not a new-comer, and should have had a wealth of experience operating their other food outlets. It is such a disappointment and anti-climax after waiting through so many months of delays. Okay, on day one, you’d expect teething problems. But I’m not complaining about teething problems. First up is about space planning. Look at the photo.

It’s Mooncake Season

It’s mooncake season again. It’s a slow start this year. The first bits of mooncakes started to come in last Friday (or was it Thursday), and since then we have been having little samples of mooncakes around the office. Some nice, some not so nice. This one pictured is a quite nice, with a little of alcohol infused into it and chocolate ganache in the center. The most unusual packaging award goes to… funny thing is we couldn’t figure out…

Simple Pleasures

Porridge buffet for just $6.90. It’s at Marina Square, Centre Stage, in case you’ve not heard of this porridge buffet by Hotpot Culture. Nothing exquisite, nothing fancy. Just simple foods. Simple like: sweet potato porridge, the 3-layer fatty pork, crispy fried ikan bilis, chicken wings, steamed egg custard, etc. Very reasonably priced too… at just $6.90++. You’ve got to sign up to be a member to enjoy the buffet at this price, and membership is free and instant.

Free Regular Pizza

I decided to get my free pizza today. It’s from Domino’s. Basically, whenever they fail to deliver your pizza order within the promised 30 minutes, you get a free regular pizza. I’ve got two of these vouchers already. Time to claim my free pizzas. The only “catch” is that you’ve gotta purchase at least one regular pizza if you’re ordering delivery (or any pizza or side order for take-away orders). It’s a reasonable condition.
