One of my favourites in NUS is the Carbonara pasta at Megabites. It’s one of the foods that I will go back to if I’m in the mood for something more than mediocre for lunch. It’s actually not like their pasta is really that great, but it certainly is of “pass” standard, something I can’t say for many other foods in NUS. I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve been eating too much in NUS that I’m getting really bored,…

New Yong Tau Foo at The Terrace
Verdict on the Laksa Yong Tau Foo: Pass. That means, will probably come again. (I don’t sprinkle stars so generously…) It’s the new stall at The Terrace, the NUS canteen that is probably more commonly known as “Business Canteen” (although it is now at least half as much associated with “Computing” as well). The Laksa gravy is quite tasty, and hot (spicy) enough. There’s this interesting hae bee hiam in it… I’m not sure if it comes in the Laksa…
How to Get Free Pizza
I heard about it from a friend. I didn’t try it on purpose to get free pizza, but I did get into the situation when the free pizza was offered. Not once, but twice. So it’s for real. But of course it is. It wouldn’t be good for their reputation if they had been reluctant to live up to their promise. The recipe for free pizza? First, find a pizza place that promises super quick delivery. Then, order pizza during…
Failing Nasi Lemak Standards
We were going to be at Lucky Plaza this morning, and I was looking forward to the Nasi Lemak there. It was the famed River Valley Nasi Lemak located in the basement of Lucky Plaza. It has been there for quite some time actually, and I’ve eaten there several times previously. It was quite good. But it seems standards have dropped tremendously since. The rice wasn’t fragrant. The egg was dry and hard. The chicken was tough. The fish was…
Today’s Special – Warm Sushi
It’s Sakae Sushi’s latest special. At least at the outlet in Junction 8. Warm Sushi. We dropped by this evening for dinner and were surprised by their new sushi servings. First it was one plate that we plucked off the conveyor belt. Our teeth felt a warm sensation as they sank themselves into the sushi. Hmm. The second plate we plucked off the conveyor belt had the same warmness. We weren’t the least pleased with the new sushi. I wonder,…
Oyster Indulgence
I think we had 11 oysters each, from The Line restaurant at Shangri-la Hotel. It’s a big buffet with plenty of food.
North Indian Pakistani Food
I was at the famed ABC market and food centre recently for lunch. There’s quite a lot of good food to pick from in there. When we found an empty table to sit at, I noticed this stall whose signage says they serve North Indian Pakistani Food. Sounds interesting. It seems they are a branch of the Al-Musafir Restaurant located at Kitchener Road. I’ve not not of them either, actually, but it makes them sound “good”. They sell Briyani, one…
Free Beer at Ma Maison
We haven’t come to this restaurant for some time, so we were quite pleasantly surprised that they have remained quite the same as before. Same ambience, the same food, same pricing, and about the same promotions too. It’s a quiet little Japanese fusion restaurant situated in a corner of the 2nd level of Bugis Junction, but they can get quite crowded. Service is good and the staff are friendly.
Hawaii Day Three – The Cheesecake Factory
The highlight on day three is about food. We headed over to Waikiki beach again, where they had this restaurant called The Cheesecake Factory. I thought it was a factory that made cheese or cheesecakes, where you could go to tour, sample their products, and maybe they had a little cafe somewhere you could sit down to have tea or coffee with some snacks. I was quite mistaken. I was wondering what the fuss was about having to go their…
Lunch at Casa Verde
Lunch time came, during my whole day meeting at NUS Bukit Timah Campus recently, and everyone was thinking about where to eat. We were told Black Angus was closed (surprising isn’t it?), and we didn’t fancy BK’s version of Black Angus. So I suggested Casa Verde, a place I’ve come to visit from time to time ever since my wife suggested the place for breakfast a long time ago. It’s a restaurant at the Singapore Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre.
