You Don’t Always Have To Form Associations
Friday, January 30th, 2009
After reading about the en mass resignations of about half the pro tem committee of the Association of Bloggers (Singapore), I couldn’t help but say a few more things about associations. Particularly that you don’t always have to form one. I went through that path myself. It can be a better way to get things done.
The Low Down on Body Kits
Thursday, January 29th, 2009
My Stream hit the tarmac as it exited the car park at Thomson Medical Centre last week. The slope as you exit to Thomson Road is way too steep. The underside edge of the front left-side bumper got scratched. Quite a lot of it got scratched actually, although they are all quite little bits. The fortunate thing is the scratches are all not very visible, at least not if you don’t purposely look for it. I got some touch-up paint from Kah Motor and just got the scratches covered up. Let’s wait for tomorrow to see how it looks.
Growing Up With Computers
Tuesday, January 27th, 2009
This is baby Vanessa getting her dose of Sesame Street on a MacBook. She’s getting early training on using a notebook computer. It’s amazing how technology has progressed so rapidly. When I was a kid, Sesame Street was a Saturday noon TV programme. Today, it’s on the Internet. Vanessa doesn’t even use a desktop computer. Instead, she has a Powerbook G4 and MacBook to entertain her.
Vanessa Celebrates 2nd Lunar New Year
Monday, January 26th, 2009
Vanessa celebrates her second Lunar New Year today. Although this is not her first year, but this time around she’s able to participate a little more in the activities. Last year she was still too little. So things are a little different this year, what with more kids running around, and more stereo screaming effects around the house, etc. This year’s reunion dinner at my dad’s place, Vanessa was able to join her two cousins running, climbing and jumping around. Her third cousin is still too little to join in for now.
Shoes For The New Year
Monday, January 26th, 2009
I did quite a bit of last minute shopping in preparing for this Lunar New Year. For example, I only got my shoes one or two days before. It was a pair of Converse shoes. I also got Converse the last year. I thought the shoes look good, reasonably comfortable, and with all the promotional sales discount, where quite fairly priced too. Not sure how long I’d stick with Converse though, because all their shoes seem to be similarly styled. Oh well, pick any brand, the same is probably true too. So now and then we’ve got to brand-hop.
The Scholar’s Pen Chai
Sunday, January 25th, 2009The Association of Gossipers (Singapore)
Saturday, January 24th, 2009
Okay, by now everyone all over the blogosphere in Singapore has heard of the spanking new Association of Bloggers (Singapore), and many more so because of an article carried in TODAY. The reaction of most people seem to be one of shock, and an immediate denouncement of the very idea that bloggers need an association. All things considered, I too wonder about the usefulness of such an association. What possible benefit can such an association bring to its members?
The Mac’s 25th Anniversary
Saturday, January 24th, 2009
I’m surprised there isn’t any fanfare. But apparently, Apple’s flagship product Macintosh celebrates its 25th anniversary today. The Macintosh brought to the market a user-friendly GUI. It wasn’t the first. It wasn’t even Apple’s first (Apple launched the overpriced Lisa a year before the Macintosh). But the Macintosh was made for the mass-market, captured the attention of consumers, and stood the test of time.
Getting a Better Digital Camera
Friday, January 23rd, 2009
I was just having this chat with my colleague about upgrading his DSLR camera. His camera is clunky and inconvenient to carry around. Nowadays cameras have advanced so much. How about getting a camera like mine? For all purpose and intent, I’ve got a pretty good camera you know. It features Carl Zeiss optics and Tessar lens, complemented by autofocus system, macro shooting, 8 scene modes, built-in flash with red-eye reduction, and produces high quality 5 megapixel images that make for superb 4R photo prints. It also captures full VGA resolution video at 30fps in MPEG4 format. It is tinier than most compact cameras.
