One of the most important items in our modern-day gadget life is the power bank. It’s the answer to the new version of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, the one that has Battery at the bottom of the pyramid. Many of us are familiar with power banks. The Aukey 30000 mAh Type-C Power Bank, however, is something quite outstanding.
The Aukey 30000 mAh Type-C Power Bank was released late 2016. The most outstanding thing about it is perhaps the humongous 30000 mAh battery, one of the largest capacity you’ll find.
Apart from the usual USB Type-A ports, of which there are two, and one of them supporting Quick Charge 3, this power bank sports a USB Type-C (USB-C) port. The USB-C port can be used for charging devices (i.e. as an output), or for charging the power bank itself (i.e. as an input). There is also a Micro-USB port used only for charging the power bank.
The USB-C port supports 3A for both input and output. It’s output is good enough to charge a 2016 12-inch MacBook, and while Aukey doesn’t officially advertise it, it will also charge my late-2016 MacBook Pro, albeit rather slowly. The port operates only at 5V, and doesn’t support USB Power Delivery 2.0, so it’s not surprising that this power bank just barely manages to charge a high-power device.
There’s also a small LED light that works as a torch. It’s not terribly bright, so it’s not a substitute for a proper torch, but it can become handy in an emergency.
Battery capacity indication is very rudimentary. This power bank simply lights up the power button LED with a red light to indicate 0 to 30 percent charge, green for 30 to 70 percent charge, and white for 70 to 100 percent charge. For 30000 mAh, just three levels of indication seem far too inadequate.
