This is Vanessa, doing her version of pull-ups, at the fitness corner. She refers to it as “playground”. But it’s not a playground. She likes hanging from the low bars. Yeah, the real pull-up bars are way too high for her to reach. But she knows what they are for. She points to it and tells me, “Papa, do up?”
We actually do have a real playground in the estate. But I’m a little hesitant to let her play in there because, well, there’s a fair bit of climbing to do, there’s more risk of falling down and hitting hard metal surfaces, and she wouldn’t let me hold her. Hmm, maybe I’m a bit over-protective. It’s ironical that the fitness corner seems like a safer playground than the kid’s playground itself. I guess there’s nothing within her reach to climb.
The fitness corner has been her playground. The other day, Vanessa actually pointed to it and told me, “go playground?” Actually she’s a lot more steady now, maybe we could try the real kid’s playground again sometime and see how she handles the “obstacles”.
Vanessa’s childcare centre is now offering gym class. It seems like an excuse to charge $60 extra. But well, maybe it’s good if Vanessa will enjoy the activities.
