I was recently invited to a Domino’s Pizza blogger event which included a ride on the Singapore Flyer. We were a big group, and two whole cabins were reserved for us. This would be a night ride, just after the sun disappeared beneath the horizon. The scenes from up the Singapore Flyer were simply awesome. The photos captured by my HTC One X was also quite stunning.
This isn’t my first ride on the Singapore Flyer. The last time, I rode in the day. The day view was quite spectacular too. You can see quite far into the distance and identify various landmarks.
However, I think the night view is even more interesting. If you only have a chance to take one ride, and it had to be either the day or night, I’d recommend the night. But not too late into the night. My “flight” departed at 7:10pm. I think that’s possibly the best time to start. There is still a bit of daylight at that time.
One full rotation on Singapore Flyer takes a little more than 30 minutes. If the sunset timing is just right, you start off the ride seeing a little of the sunset, watch the sun disappear yet still leave a beautifully lit sky, and then finally watch the glitter of lights from the busy Singapore nightlife below.
So here are some photos, starting off with still some daylight.
Then, day transforms to night. The views are stunning.
Of course, I could not resist some panorama shots. These were taken straight with the built-in panoramic mode of the HTC One X. Highly convenient.
Thank you Domino’s and Omy.sg for organizing this event!
