I’m a fan of in-ear headphones. They are small, unobtrusive, and easy to carry around. I usually find them more comfortable than the weighty on-ears or over-ears headphones. So when Sennheiser’s well-regarded Momentum line of headphones gained an in-ear addition to the family, I was very eager to try them out.
Sennheiser’s Momentum In-Ear became available in Singapore in January this year. Like other headphones in the Momentum family, the In-Ear is designed to both look good and sound good. Charles Da, Product Manager at Sennheiser Consumer Electronics, describes the Momentum headphone series as the “ultimate fusion of style and substance.”
There’s a lot to like about the Momentum In-Ears, and it starts right from opening up the box. Inside, you’re greeted by a nice-looking zippered carrying case, within which you’ll find the headphones wound around the removable cable winder.
On the outside, the Momentum In-Ear headphone has eye-catching good looks. The red accents and mirror chrome detailing lend to it a striking aesthetically pleasing design. The body is made from tough impact-resistant polycarbonate and stainless steel, ensuring durability and robustness to stand up to daily use on the go.
Four pairs of silicon ear tips are provided with the headphones to help you find the correct fit. As with any in-ear headphones, the correct fit is important to ensure comfort, noise isolation and the best sound experience.
The Momentum In-Ear uses flattish cables, with a sturdy Y-connector. The cable is black for the most part, but has a two tone red-black design above the Y-connector to match the ear pieces. The cable ends in a standard L-shaped 3.5 mm audio connector.
The three button in-line remote with integrated microphone controls music and calls. There are two variants available, one for iOS devices such as iPhones, and the other for Android and Windows devices. Make sure you check the box for the correct version when you buy.
The Momentum In-Ear sounds surprisingly good, particularly for its price category. Overall, the headphones delivers a V-shaped sound signature, with mids that are recessed, robust bass and an energetic treble.
The bass is impressive. It is deep, punchy, and powerful. The mids are clear, but a little overwhelmed by the generous amount of bass. The treble does get just slightly too brittle for my preference. However, they aren’t harsh and you don’t get sibilance there.
Music from the Momentum In-Ear is forward, lively and warm. There is clear instrument separation and a good wide soundstage. These headphones are very pleasant to listen to.
The Momentum In-Ear retails for S$149 and is available at the Sennheiser Concept Store at Marina Square, and authorised retailers.
Conclusion
The Sennheiser Momentum In-Ear both looks good and sounds really good, particularly for its price category.
