Nokia To Launch Touchscreen Nseries Phone

Nokia is picking up some marketing tips from Apple: Create suspense leading up to a major product announcement at a big event. Much like Apple having their big MacWorld conference, Nokia will hold Nokia World 2008 on 2nd and 3rd December. Industry sources are predicting that Nokia’s big announcement will be their touchscreen based Nseries smartphone which will become available in 2009. The touchscreen Nseries will run Symbian Series 60 5th Edition OS. Nokia is a little late coming into the touchscreen smartphone arena, but the new Nseries will certainly still challenge the Apple iPhone, HTC Touch and Blackberry Storm.

Nokia has already recently launched their first touchscreen phone with the 5800 XpressMusic, although this one isn’t exactly what they tout as a smartphone (and of course certainly not a “Nseries”). The 5800 XpressMusic is also a good phone, of course, but a touchscreen Nseries will definitely be a major milestone. (Engadget reported last month on Nokia’s confirmation of the touchscreen Nseries).

The Nokia World 2008 event will start in approximately 6 hours. Check out their website and follow the event as it unfolds.

  1. Wow can’t wait to see what Nokia is going to offer. Since GPS, WIFI, HSDPA, high mp camera are typical stuff, I hope to see Nokia offer Wimax in their latest touchscreen smartphone.
