I’ve been earning a small little sum of pocket money through Google Adsense on my blog. It’s a relatively steady flow, although also relatively small. The amount of work I put into my blog is also relatively little, of course, compared to my full time day job. I was just thinking about it, it I make blogging my full time job, would I earn enough from Google Adsense to pay me comparably to what I earn now from my day job?
It’s an interesting question, and full time blogging sounds like an interesting proposition too.
I looked at the math. Nope, unfortunately not. My current Adsense earnings, divided by the approximate number of blogging hours a month, multiplied by 22 x 8 working hours a month, does not earn me enough money.
At least, not at the current rate I’m earning from Adsense. Something has to radically change to make the math work. (My assumption that Adsense earnings would increase proportionally to the amount of content I author could be flawed in the first place.)
There could also be other sources of advertising income. Or some other sources of revenue generation that replaces Adsense. But it is still unlikely to make an appreciable difference. I need something big. Like being so famous that everyone wants to read my blog, and whom can be convinced to click on some ads. Or when a brand name wants to buy sponsored space on my pages.
I think at this time I should be happy enough that Google Adsense feeds me a little pocket money. Full time blogging is not going to work for me, at least not now. But it’s a nice thing to dream about.
I wonder how has Google Adsense worked for other casual bloggers?
For me full time blogging is out of the question. The $ from Adsense is just too little… but if were to do a comparsion between effort put in to blogging to $ from adsense well it balance more or less. 🙂
Working full time is still the main source of $ for me at least till my retirement in another 40 years time!
What you need is to develop niche websites. Here is the maths.
Say for example,
1 website you make US$200 a month
If you develop 20 niche websites which can make you US$200 a month then it would be
US$200 x 20 = US$4000 a month
Bear in mind these are passive income meaning once you built the traffic, it requires minimum effort and at most you just need to run the maintenance.
Blogging definitely isn\’t about trading blogging time for money. It\’s about looking for that X factor to build up traffics and once you can get hold of it, then the earnings can continue for as long the website exist.
can’t totally rely on adsense, but it helps you save a lot of money.
You can easily increase your adsense earnings by adding Infolinks’ in text ads. It doesn’t take any extra space on your blog and it is very easy to integrate.
hey hai……ive been waiting for adsense approval and it takes quite awhile…..may i know for how long exactly does google will grant me approval…a week?
hey…how long does google takes for my approval to end…a week?i been waiting for sometime u see…
The account verification seems pretty fast for me. They will send you something in the mail once your earnings have crossed a certain minimum sum. I forgot the exact amount, but you will find out about it in your Adsense account page where they explain how payments work.
i am only afraid adsense will be aprroved in a month or two…..how long does adsense approved for you?? a week?
HI mizi86,
I don’t recall how long, but it was fast enough once I did the verification. They send out the mail early enough that you wouldn’t cross US$100 that fast anyway, so it is not like your payments would end up being delayed.
so heres a nidge…….for example i earn us100…..will it change to singapore currency s100?
Hi mizi86,
The earnings are all calculated in US$. They will pay you in S$ at the prevailing exchange rates. It’s quite a fair deal. So when you cross US$100, that would mean you’d be getting at least S$150. The payments in Singapore are very fast, because they seem to have an arrangement with Citibank Singapore to issue the cheque locally. It just takes a few days unlike what it says on the Adsense information pages.
so much is ure average income through adsense?
Hi mizi86,
I rather not mention specific numbers. But it is regular, and I’ve got a bunch of cheques since I started the Google Adsense program about 1.5 years ago.
