For the last dinner of 2011, we had a nice home cooked meal made by The Wife. Yup, with extra prawn heads for me because that’s the part of the prawn I like the most. No lavish buffets like we had earlier in the week. In fact, our last lunch was also a fairly simple, even though it was a buffet: porridge buffet at Hotpot Culture at Marina Square. 2011 has been a good year, and I’m expecting that 2012 will be a very busy and exciting new year.
The two kids at home will be five and three in 2012. They are growing up fast. We’ve even got started thinking about primary school for Vanessa. That’ll mean the parents are soon going to be drawn into the academic race. It’s kind of worrying how academically competitive Singapore has become. I’m already somewhat lost with all the changes that have been happening with the primary, secondary and pre-university education in here. Sometimes, it’s only through reading forum letters, basically from parents with complaints and feedback about our education system, that I learn about what I don’t know about.
2012 is just starting, and I know it’s going to be the start of more challenges to come. Not least because I’m moving into a new age category where I get automatically released from having to do any more national service. That’s a good thing, generally, other than the part about a new age category.
It’s a lazy Sunday today. We’ve watched a couple of episodes of NCIS. I’ve managed to convinced the kids to like the show, so I can get to watch from “adult” channel on TV. Otherwise it’s going to be Barney or Little Einstein all the time. Surprisingly, both the kids, particularly Vanessa, have come to have their favourite characters.
Right now the two kids are having their nap while I write this.
Happy new year!
