The first ever Formula 1 night race has concluded with Fernando Alonso taking the first place. Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton took the 2nd and 3rd place respectively. It’s quite an exciting race with 2 crashes, and an unfortunate incident in the pitstop when Felipe Massa drove off with the fuel hose still attached to his car. I’m glad to have caught all the action on TV. I’d bet those who shelled out money for tickets to the race would have seen less action.
Now that the race is over, at least for this year, I’m sure Singaporeans are looking forward to the city centre returned back to normal, where people can get about with their shopping and such. I wonder what is the true cost to us for hosting the F1 race here?
It’s always more difficult the first time. Maybe for the subsequent years, the F1 will cause less disruption and inconvenience. I wasn’t directly affected, so I don’t really have anything to complain about. But I’ve heard and read about all the difficulties some others have faced in the last week or so.
Incidentally, I couldn’t help but notice the amount of leaves flying around the race track during the race. I’m sure they must have cleaned up the circuit before the race. The F1 cars zipping around must have created enough suction to draw in leaves from the surroundings. I wonder if next year the organizers would trim back on the trees. One of the things to deal with in a garden city.
