I’ve started running some web analytics on my web access logs recently. Among other things, it enabled me to discover (blogged here), how unusually, that many search visitors who end up on my site were searching for Nokia N82. Well, there are a bunch of other interesting things about I found too. For example, I always thought that Google search was more popular than Yahoo. But in so far as search visitors that dropped by my site, almost twice the…

Cars With Adjustable Engine Volume
Just came across this funny sign yesterday at a nearby neighbourhood makan place. Yes, cars have adjustable engine volumes. It’s not the size (c.c.) of the engine, but the loudness of the engine noises. Just like your radio or TV has a volume control, car engines too have a control to adjust the engine loudness. I guess that would be the car’s gas pedal of course. Step on it, the engine makes more noise. Although, I tend to think that…
Power Failure and a Bad Weekend
This Saturday was not a good day. I went back to work twice. First, there was a power glitch that tripped our building chiller plant, causing our Data Centre air-con to trip due to no chill water supply. Then in the night, one of our servers became unreachable, which we eventually found was due to a faulty switch port. There was actually a third problem: Fan failure in one of our big switches. This would have required hardware replacement, so…
Urgent Security Update to WordPress
Yes it keeps us busy even during the festive season. A number of critical security issues were identified with WordPress 2.3.1 (may apply to older versions too) that necessitated an urgent security release. WordPress 2.3.2 is now available. One of the problem is a SQL Injection Vulnerability that exposes internal information about your WordPress installation. These are common problems that plague web applications. I did a brief presentation on Secure Web Programming a few moons ago. It was primarily intended…

Vanessa’s New Maclaren Buggy
I always through Maclaren was something about Formula 1 racing. I was surprised that the top few search matches for “Maclaren” from Google were in fact about the baby stroller company. Ok, I just learned: The Formula 1 guy is McLaren. Just slightly different spelling. Anyway, here’s Baby Vanessa out for a walk in her new Maclaren stroller. She doesn’t look too pleased in here, probably a bit grouchy from just having woken up from her sleep. We just got…
Facelift for 2008
Yes, 2008 is fast coming up in a couple of days. While others are busy thinking about what new year resolutions to make (or break), I’ve also been busy getting a face lift. For my homepage-cum-blog, that is. Yes, not just a new WordPress Theme, but I’ve also ventured into Adsense advertising! My homepage-cum-blog’s resolution for 2008 shall be to make some money for me!
Cold Storage is Charged
This Cold Storage is charged. With static electricity, that is. How many times have I come to this particular branch at King Albert Park and always find myself painfully zapped by static electricity. Touch this — Zap. Touch that — Zap again. Accidentally brush against someone — Zapped too! I have resolved to stop shopping at this branch. It doesn’t happen at any other Cold Storage branches, so I wonder what’s so special about this one.
Ishiyaki Unagi Rice
Ichiban Boshi’s Ishiyaki Unagi Rice is really nice. It is eel on garlic rice in stone bowl. Comes with set items. The eel melts in your mouth. The rice touching the bowl gets slightly burnt, like in claypot rice. — Posted from my N95 Lifeblog.
The Nokia N96
What’s next after the Nokia N95 8GB? Rumoured from the Symbian Freak and GSMArena, the N96! Looks and styles like the N81, but size more of the N95. Don’t know about detailed specifications yet, but I’m sure they will be leaked out along the way. Now, I think Nokia has had their run of new releases for this festive season, probably it will be a while before this phone shows up. Now, they still haven’t made good on their N-Gage…
