Running on WordPress 2.7-beta3Running on WordPress 2.7-beta3

WordPress 2.7 is coming soon. I’ve been trying out the beta releases on my test site. Although much of the improvements are usability enhancements (things that I don’t generally find to be “highly important”), there are two particular things that I find really useful: paginated comments and threaded commenting. I couldn’t wait anymore, not even for the release candidate, so ZitSeng.com has been upgraded to the current latest available beta, WordPress 2.7 beta 3. You can see the paginated comments and threaded commenting action in one of my blog pages which has rather lengthly discussion: Simplicity Theme.

Web Widget For Drivers

Mobile widgets for drivers

Ever since I signed up for broadband data on my mobile phone, I’ve been trying to make it easy for me to access information on the go. One of the things I’ve done is to write a simple widget to fetch little bits of information from different sources and mash it up into a tight little display area. For example, I have displays to show information from work, webcam feed from home, etc. One page that will probably find general interest to other people as well is the display of traffic information, weather forecast and CNA front page news. I’ve since cleaned it up and moved this to a public server so that it can be shared with everyone.

If you’ve got a mobile broadband plan on your phone, point your phone’s web browser to http://zitseng.com/widget. The page is plain and simple, so that it loads fast and minimizes unnecessary clutter and distraction on your phone. It is rendered in XHTML Mobile profile to maximize compatibility with most phone browsers (web browsers required though, not WAP-only browsers), and it will also display on all modern PC (Windows, Mac, Linux, etc) browsers as well.

Coffee ‘O’ Included, Add 40 Cents For Milk

Set meal includes black coffee, but no milkSet meal includes black coffee, but no milk

This will be the first time ever I’ve seen a set meal that includes coffee ‘O’, tea or a soft drink, but not milk for the coffee. Look at the menu. No doubt, they were up front about milk for the coffee not being included. But I thought how absurd. Probably something I’m misunderstanding about the menu. No milk for the coffee? My goodness, how much can milk cost? Trying to save some meagre cost in this economic downturn?

The mussels are really nice and sweet. The sauce is delicious and goes very well with the bread which is served with the dish too.

WordPress 2.6.5 Security Update

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

WordPress has been updated to version 2.6.5, which fixes one security vulnerability and three bugs. They’ve skipped the version 2.6.4 number because apparently a fake version 2.6.4 has been making its rounds on the Internet. It’s also about time to prepare for version 2.7. Although there are no new major features in 2.7, there will be quite some usability enhancements, some of which I’ve been looking forward to have.

Car Accident With NUS Bus

Monday, November 24th, 2008

Some months ago, a bus collided into my car. I was fortunate that there was video footage to capture the entire accident, including the fact that the bus driver simply drove off. The matter is finally over, so I feel okay to share some details about the incident, and in particular why this is all so infuriating.

Macs As A Fashion Accessory

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

I was at the Coffee Bean branch in West Mall this evening. Looking around, I saw 5 notebooks on the tables. Nothing surprising, people do get some work done or just surf the web while they’re sipping their coffee. What was surprising, however, was that all 5 notebooks where MacBooks of some sort or other.
