This is the Live Tasmanian Mussels, the Chef’s Special at Galbiati Gourmet Deli located in Rail Mall along Upper Bukit Timah Road. It is served in white wine, black pepper and tomato sauce. The mussels are really nice and sweet. The sauce is delicious and goes very well with the bread which is served with the dish too.
My wife was quite surprised that I was trying to finish up the sauce, because usually I don’t like tomato based things (e.g. spaghetti mariana, etc), although I do like raw tomatoes. But I liked this sauce.
We also had the other Chef’s Special, the Braised Lamb Shank with Homemade Pasta. The lamb shank was really tender, juicy and tasty. Enough fatty meat in there, just the way I like (yeah, even if it is not so healthy). The pasta itself was slightly undercooked, and the buttery sauce was a little plain. Mix it with the sauce from the Tasmanian mussels and it tasted much better.
Service is good and prompt. The staff changed our plate of empty mussel shells when it was getting filled. Nice that they noticed and took the initiative. The deli has a nice ambience too.
In recent years, Rail Mall has been transformed into a nice restaurant dining area, which includes some budget friendly eateries as well. My wife and I decided to try something different, something from “the other side” of Rail Mall that we usually don’t head to. So we ended up in Galbiati Gourmet Deli. Although it has been operating in Rail Mall for some time, we haven’t yet patronized the place. It was a good choice.
