Upcoming Nokia Products

There seems to be a lot going on with Nokia this year in terms of new and upcoming products. One of the highlights this year has to be the launch of their N97 flagship. There has also been a slew of follow-up models to their 5800 XpressMusic phone. But there are bigger things to come, and the time is ripe enough that Nokia has started sharing on their various official websites.

Quantified Improvements in Snow Leopard

I’ve just finished upgrading to Snow Leopard. Apple claims it is faster. With most things turned 64-bits, one would expect to see some improvements. But how good is better? Well, I timed a selected bunch of events, just before upgrading (i.e. still running Leopard), and then after the upgrade to Snow Leopard was done. Here’s the quantitative comparisons.

Snow Leopard is Here!

Customers in Singapore are now receiving their Snow Leopard! Here’s the opened up Mac Box Set ordered by my colleague. The first thing that struck me? Oh, the box is so small. It is about the area of a standard CDROM. I somehow got the impression that it is a more sizable portion. The photos on their website make the box look big. This is my colleague’s order. Still waiting for mine to arrive at home.

Snow Leopard: Prepared for Shipment

Earlier this afternoon, I noticed that the order status in the Apple Online Store for my Snow Leopard had been updated to “Prepared for shipment”. Delivery will be by tomorrow, so the order tracking page says. I guess people in Singapore, along with those in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, etc, will be amongst the first in the world to get their copy of Snow Leopard. It is going to be goodbye to the Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard on this…

My First PC

I just bought my first non-DIY desktop PC. Yeah. It’s surprising, yet I’m not surprised, that I did not DIY it myself. I guess after years of building PCs, installing software, I decided to give in and let some branded PC company take care of all the complicated things for me. This branded PC company is Acer. That’s not the surprising enough thing, actually. On top of buying a PC from a branded PC company, I actually ordered a business-level…

Apple iTunes vs Nokia Music

The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic I got last weekend enabled me to try out Nokia’s Comes with Music for the first time, and also to explore more of the Nokia Music Store than I did before. I’m also quite familiar with Apple’s iTunes Store, which does a lot more than selling music. The two stores are used primarily to support and push the sales of products from their respective companies. What do I think of the two stores?

Nokia 5800 vs N97

The Wife got her Nokia 5800 XpressMusic handphone last weekend. It’s the much publicized phone that Comes with Music. Opening up the box and checking out its included accessories, I was left wondering what was Nokia thinking short-changing their N97 customers. You’d think that after paying a premium for a N97 phone, it should come with everything, but it didn’t. That’s fine if this is Nokia’s new strategy moving forward, but then why do we find the 5800 so well…

Hopelessly Clueless Courts’ Salesman

Time and again I’ve eavesdropped (unintentionally no doubt) and been amused by how PC salesmen try to confuse and misinform their customers. Now that I’m trying to buy a PC, it is not so funny anymore. I was at Courts earlier this evening and wanted some information, but I found myself speaking to a salesman who tried to sound like an expert, but in reality he was quite clueless and spewing false and misleading information.

Speedy Service at M1 Shop

You know how it is, the queue to get a queue number is itself quite long and slow moving. Buying a handphone, especially on a weekend, can take up quite a bit of time. I’ve waited like 2 hours to be served at M1 Shop the last time I bought a phone from them. I don’t know about StarHub, but it is sort or about the same with SingTel Shop. So I was pleasantly surprised that my shopping trip to…
