Tonight marks the start of the first ever night F1 night race, and the first F1 street race in Asia, with two practice sessions held in the evening. It is still on-going now as I write this, and here’s a photo of the race circuit in action. I think there’s probably a lot of excitement amongst everyone in Singapore to be a part of this event that has certainly put Singapore in the spotlight.
Of course, Singaporeans also like to complain. I’ve been hearing, for example, no end to complaints about the significant transportation problems brought about by the major road closures and diversions around the race circuit. Fortunately I’m not directly affected by the traffic changes. But I was quite surprised to hear about the jam on the ECP this evening, which apparently starts from the ECP Rocher exit toward Changi Airport, and extends all the way back to AYE Jurong Town Hall exit. I wonder if the jam was really a single jam, as opposed to separate independent jams happening at different places. To be stuck in a traffic jam from ECP Rocher to AYE Jurong Town Hall is really a serious problem!
Yeah, in case anyone’s wondering, no I did not go down to Marina Bay area, and in fact I plan to avoid any place near it for the next few days. The above photo was shot off TV. Heh. I believe it is must better to be watching the race from home through TV. You get to see action from the whole track. The TV cameras will direct your attention to the right things to see. Commentators will feed you with information. Of course, you also get the enjoy the comforts of home.
Same principle for watching NDP at home.
When I left office at 6:30pm on Friday Evening…
Bouna Vista to Rochor 57minutes (Usually 15 minutes)
Bouna Vista to Changi Airport 73 minutes (Usually 25 minutes)
Yeah, I’ll avoid Marina area like a plague.
