Lunch today was at Akashi Japanese Restaurant located at Vivocity. It’s a nice cozy place. The first thing that struck me was their wasabi. It is the real thing. Not the wasabi paste you get in most Japanese restaurant. This is the fresh wasabi kind that just crumbles into your soy sauce. I can’t remember where else I’ve seen it served in Singapore, but this is definitely one of the things I liked about this restaurant.
The next thing is their sashimi. I like sashimi. The sashimi at Akashi is really excellent. They serve thick slices of the raw fish that are very fresh. One of the highlights is the fatty tuna belly. It was really good. Just look at the photo. We ordered two servings of the sashimi, and I noted how my side of the table was chomping down the sashimi so much faster than the other side. We can can tell where the sashimi lovers were.
We also had sea urchin. Not a fan of it, even though it was being strongly promoted by some (one) at the table.
My main course was Tenzaru Cha Soba. It was good. The cha soba was served on crushed ice with lots of seaweed and sesame seeds. There was a quail egg to go with the cha soba sauce.
We were too busy talking to really notice the service, but there was really nothing major to fault them on. I was too busy to notice the price too, but I’m told it was “reasonable”.
