There is this interesting little restaurant we visited last weekend. It’s called Riders Cafe, and you’d need a set of wheels to get to it. It is located somewhere off Eng Neo Avenue, near the old Turf Club, in a place known as the Bukit Timah Turf Club. It occupies the upper floor of an old historical two-storey building. It’s a nice quaint place, the kind of place that seems to turn the clock back a couple of decades.
It was a very hot afternoon when we went there for lunch. One of the first thing I noted about the place was that there was no air-conditioning. I thought it was going to be a very hot lunch. Fortunately, with the very high ceiling and rather effective ventilation from many fans, the hour or so we spent there turned out to be pleasantly comfortable.
We ordered two mains: Crabmeat Vin Blanc, and Fish and Chips. The Crabmeat Vin Blanc is basically crabmeat with linguine in white wine sauce. There is plenty of the crabmeat, and the white wine sauce was tasty. The fish was slightly fishy (but that’s the point of ordering fish eh), although I thought the batter wasn’t really all that great. Not crispy enough I think.
We also ordered Cream of Mushroom. The wild mushrooms were really tasty. We ordered a side of Buffalo Wings. Good too. For desserts, we had Creme Brulee, which was as good as other good Creme Brulee I’ve had. Vanessa also had something light to eat – the kid’s scrambled toast.
I think overall the food is good. Considering that the food is reasonably priced ($82.40 total bill) and the nice ambience, it is worth a recommendation. Provided, of course, you have a set of wheels to get you there.
