I had lunch at Sun Asian Bistro with a big bunch of colleagues a couple of days ago. It’s the restaurant down at NUS Staff Club. Some of my colleagues had actually been there twice already (it’s a new restaurant, so for them to want to go there the third time must be quite worthwhile).
I guess one of the attraction is the 50% discount they are currently offering as part of their opening promotion. Discounts always work; customers love discounts.
The decor of the restaurant is quite nice. Overall a modern, up-market, cosy setup. Good first impression as I walk into the restaurant. It’s a new restaurant, so of course everything is still new and in tip-top condition.
We shared chicken wings for starters. They were quite delicious. Crispy and hot. Everything still going well so far.
I heard from other colleagues previous visits that the western steak items were quite good. Not cheap at the list price, but very reasonable after 50% discount. Okay, I thought I’d give the Black Angus steak a try.
Surprisingly, the steak didn’t turn out okay for me. I ordered medium, but it came medium rare. The worst thing is that I’d expect the steak to be served sizzling hot, or at least decently hot. It wasn’t. It was only, at best, just warm. In fact, I’d say some parts were even cold. The taste itself was passable, though not something I’d especially want to come back for.
My colleague ordered some kind of steak seafood combo. He asked for medium rare, but the steak came raw. Yes, not rare but raw. Sure some parts can pass for medium rare, but many parts were rare or just simply not cooked. Very bad. In fact, I can see that the prawns were not fresh. You don’t even have to taste it, it already looked bad.
It seems overall the Western items were disappointing. The others who ordered Asian dishes said they were ok. Perhaps there’s a reason why the restaurant is called “Sun Asian Bistro”. They do Asian food, not Western.
The 50% discount promotion was supposed to end last Friday. But an email was sent out this week to inform that it had been extended till end of this month.
I tried their steak twice which i thk is good, i thk different standard is due to different chef who prepare the steak, such a good steak if prepare by in-experience chef would be really be a waste
