Online Shopping

It’s that time of the year again, Black Friday followed by Cyber Monday. Sale, sale, and more sale. Everywhere, even Singapore retailers are capitalising on this shopping festivity. Sadly, either my expectations have been spoilt by prior years to really fantastic deals, or truly, nowadays, retailers aren’t trying very hard at their sale promotions.

Perhaps another possibility is that we’ve all gotten so good at worldwide online shopping, including from sites based in China and Hong Kong, getting ourselves the best deals all year around, that the Black Friday and Cyber Monday season brings nothing particularly interesting to the table.

I suspect, too, that retailers are turning the tables on us, by offering what looks like a bit of a discount, but in reality is just some small price adjustment to tempt shoppers into buying something. Thank goodness for sites like Amazon, there’s Camelcamelcamel to help us trend the item prices, so that we can tell if they are really good discounts or not.

Have you found any good bargains this season?

Update: After writing this, I saw through Facebook’s “On This Day” feature that I had posted last year about Crucial M500 240GB SSD selling for just US$73. Don’t think we’re seeing such nice offers now. Though strictly speaking, $/GB, Samsung 850 EVO 500GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-75E500B/AM) now at US$147.99 with free ship to Singapore is a nice, better, offer. Nice, but not spectacular.
