There’s much excitement over the upcoming Google Pixel 3 smartphones, including plenty of leaks, some arguments over whether the leaks are fake, and if Google will have a surprise for us. For the people in Singapore, the big question is, will it come to Singapore?
It turns out, yes! Oh, well, it hasn’t yet happened, so I mean, anything can still change, but the signs are that both the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL will arrive in Singapore. We know this because…
It has received IMDA type approval!
The model numbers G013A and G013C are for the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL respectively, as has been widely reported in other channels.
The good news is that unlike last year, when only the larger of the 2nd generation Pixel smartphones were brought into Singapore, we expect to get both variants this year. Of course, the above IMDA type approval only tells us that the smartphones are likely to be brought into Singapore, not when. It may be a little delayed, like it was with the Pixel 2 XL last year.
But I think there’s a good chance it will happen earlier than later, particularly since the Google Store Singapore now directly sells a number of hardware products. Furthermore, it is likely that we’ll also be able to buy directly from Google, instead of through an exclusive telco partner.
With the global launch set to happen on 9 Oct, we’ve just got just under 3 weeks more to find out.
Check out my earlier post on what to expect in the new Pixel 3 smartphones.
