Cupcakes Singapore

20072009379Cupcakes seem to be the rage in Singapore now. For Ian’s full month bash, we had cupcakes from both Cupcake Momma as well as Crystal Jade. Cupcake Momma has been doing cupcakes for some time, Crystal Jade is relatively more recent. Since we had both cupcakes, it’s easy to compare them. So how does Cupcake Momma and Crystal Jade cupcakes fare?

Let’s look at simple things first. Cupcake Momma’s cupcakes start from $1.60 and range upward to $3. Crystal Jade cupcakes are cheaper, just $1.20 each. Furthermore, Crystal Jade’s cupcakes are slightly larger than Cupcake Momma’s. See photo above, Crystal Jade on left, Cupcake Momma on right. So it looks like Crystal Jade is more value for money.

However, there’s still the taste and design. Cupcake Momma’s cupcakes are more intricate in design. Crystal Jade’s design tend to be simpler. Cupcake Momma’s icing is of soft delicate cream that is easily damaged if the cupcake gets “knocked”. Crystal Jade has some designs with cream and others with icing sugar. The icing sugar is hard, so it tends to stay in shape better.

Taste? The cake bit itself seems to be quite the same. I didn’t quite like Crystal Jade’s plain (vanilla I think) flavour, but the chocolate one tastes about the same as Cupcake Momma’s. Crystal Jade’s icing sugar seems to be slightly too sweet for my liking.
